Are you passionate about supporting young people and making a meaningful difference in the lives of students with additional needs?

Smart Teachers are working with a supportive and inclusive secondary school in Redbridge who are seeking to appoint a SEND Deputy Head of Year (Non-Teaching) to join their dedicated pastoral team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced pastoral professional, SEND specialist, mentor, or teaching assistant looking to take the next step in their career and make a real impact on the lives of students across KS3 and KS4.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting students' academic progress, personal development, attendance, behaviour, and wellbeing. Working closely with the SEND team, Heads of Year, teachers, families, and external agencies, you will help ensure students receive the guidance and support they need to thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide dedicated pastoral support for students across KS3 and KS4, particularly those with SEND and additional learning needs
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with students, helping them overcome barriers to achievement
  • Support students with EHCPs, SEN needs, and individualised support plans
  • Monitor attendance, behaviour, wellbeing, and engagement, implementing strategies to improve outcomes
  • Work alongside teaching staff and the SEND department to ensure students are fully supported in lessons
  • Lead interventions and mentoring sessions to support students' emotional, social, and academic development
  • Liaise with parents, carers, and external professionals to provide effective support
  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and respectful school culture

Requirements:

  • Experience working with secondary-aged students within a pastoral, SEND, mentoring, or educational support role
  • A strong understanding of SEND, inclusion, and strategies to support students with additional needs
  • Experience managing behaviour and supporting students who may face barriers to learning
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build relationships with students, staff, and families
  • A calm, resilient, and proactive approach
  • Passionate about improving outcomes and opportunities for young people
