Responsible to: Headteacher / Deputy Headteacher
Purpose of the Role
The Assistant Headteacher will provide strategic and operational leadership to promote high-quality teaching, learning and pupil outcomes. Working closely with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team, the postholder will support school improvement, staff development, safeguarding, and the delivery of outstanding educational provision for all pupils.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership and Management
- Contribute to the strategic development and continuous improvement of the school.
- Support the implementation of school policies, priorities and improvement plans.
- Lead, motivate and develop teaching and support staff to achieve high standards.
- Manage resources effectively to maximise pupil outcomes.
- Promote a positive, inclusive and ambitious school culture.
Teaching and Learning
- Lead and support class teams to deliver high-quality teaching and learning.
- Monitor and improve pupil progress, achievement and wellbeing.
- Work collaboratively with staff to develop and implement effective learning programmes.
- Promote and share excellent classroom practice across the school.
- Support staff training and professional development to enhance teaching and learning.
Partnership Working
- Build strong relationships with parents, carers and external professionals.
- Work collaboratively with multi-agency teams to support pupils' individual needs.
- Contribute to strengthening links between the school, families and the wider community.
Safeguarding
- Promote and uphold the school's safeguarding culture and procedures.
- Maintain accurate safeguarding records and contribute to safeguarding meetings.
- Play an active strategic role within the school's safeguarding team.
- Attend relevant safeguarding training and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
Line Management
- Conduct appraisals and performance management for designated staff.
- Provide coaching, support and challenge to improve staff performance and professional growth.
Person SpecificationEssential Qualifications
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Evidence of relevant and recent professional development.
Essential Experience and Knowledge
- Experience of leading and developing staff.
- Experience of working with pupils with SEND and complex learning needs.
- Experience of improving teaching, learning and pupil outcomes.
- Effective resource management and organisational skills.
- Strong partnership working with families and external agencies.
- Knowledge of curriculum development, assessment, target setting and safeguarding.
- Understanding of equality, inclusion and the use of ICT to support learning.
