Full job description

Apprentice / Trainee Design Engineer – Scaffold & Temporary Works Engineering Techniques Ltd | [Leyton, London] From £15,700 for school leavers | up to £22,000 for those with relevant experience

Start your engineering career with a hands-on role in scaffold and temporary works design — a specialist, in-demand field where you'll contribute to real UK construction projects from day one.

Engineering Techniques Ltd is a specialist engineering consultancy established in 2014, working across residential and commercial projects throughout the UK. We're a close-knit team of engineers who take pride in developing talent and doing technically strong work. This role has come about as part of our continued growth.

What you'll be doing

You'll work alongside our senior engineers, learning the full design process for scaffold and temporary works. Day to day, this means producing and amending engineering drawings in AutoCAD, assisting with design checks and calculations, attending site surveys, and supporting project coordination. No two projects are quite the same, so you'll gain broad exposure quickly.

What we're looking for

We're not expecting prior experience — we'll train the right person from the ground up. What matters is that you're genuinely interested in engineering or construction, organised, and keen to learn. Good attention to detail and the ability to communicate clearly will take you a long way here.

It would be a bonus if you have any AutoCAD exposure, construction site experience, or relevant studies behind you — but none of these are essential.

What you'll get

  • Fully funded Level 3 Engineering Technician apprenticeship — earn while you qualify, with no tuition costs to you
  • Structured AutoCAD and scaffold design training from day one
  • Hands-on exposure to live engineering projects across the UK
  • Ongoing mentoring from experienced engineers
  • Company pension scheme
  • Paid authorised travel expenses
  • Real career progression as the business grows
  • Additional contribution to travel

How to apply

If you're ready to build a career in engineering and want to learn from a team that will genuinely invest in your development, we'd love to hear from you. Apply now with your CV — no cover letter needed.
