Job Overview

Venturi Cardiology is seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and highly skilled Clinical Cardiac Physiologist specialising in Echocardiography to join our expanding team.

The successful candidate will provide a high-quality independent echocardiography service across Venturi Cardiology sites and partner organisations. You will be responsible for performing, analysing and reporting adult transthoracic echocardiograms, contributing to service development, and supporting the delivery of outstanding patient care within a modern private cardiology environment.

You will work closely with Consultant Cardiologists, Cardiac Physiologists and operational teams to ensure efficient pathways, excellent patient experience and adherence to professional standards. Continuous professional development is strongly encouraged, with opportunities to develop advanced echocardiography skills and leadership responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities:

• Independently perform and report adult transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE).
• Undertake complex echocardiographic investigations where appropriately trained, including:
• Contrast studies
• Bubble studies
• Stress echocardiography
• Produce accurate, timely and clinically relevant reports.
• Escalate urgent or unexpected findings promptly to the responsible Consultant Cardiologist.
• Ensure all investigations are performed in accordance with BSE standards, local protocols and Venturi Cardiology policies.
• Maintain high standards of patient safety, dignity and confidentiality at all times.

Service Delivery:

• Contribute to the efficient day-to-day running of the echocardiography service.
• Ensure equipment is maintained, calibrated and quality-controlled in line with manufacturer recommendations.
• Support service development initiatives and quality improvement programmes.
• Participate in audit, clinical governance and accreditation activities.
• Maintain accurate clinical records and documentation using electronic patient record systems.
• Leadership and Education:
• Support the supervision and training of junior Physiologists, trainees and students.
• Provide mentorship and clinical guidance to colleagues where required.
• Assist senior staff in maintaining clinical standards and departmental performance.
• Contribute to departmental teaching, competency assessments and continuing professional development activities.

Professional Responsibilities:

• Maintain registration with the Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS) / RCCP where applicable.
• Maintain a personal CPD portfolio and evidence of ongoing professional development.
• Keep up to date with developments in echocardiography and cardiac physiology practice.
• Act as a professional ambassador for Venturi Cardiology and promote excellent patient-centred care.

Qualifications

• BSc Clinical Psychology, Healthcare Science (Cardiac Science) or recognised equivalent qualification (essential)
• British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) Adult Transthoracic Accreditation (essential)
• Evidence of ongoing professional development (essential)
• Eligible for AHCS or RCCP registration (essential)
• Immediate Life Support (desirable)
• Advanced Life Support (desirable)

Experience

• BSE-accredited independent practitioner, performing and reporting adult transthoracic echocardiograms (essential)
• Experience working within a cardiology or echocardiography department (essential)
• Sound understanding of non-invasive cardiac diagnostic investigation (essential)
• Experience managing and prioritising clinical workload independently (essential)
• Experience supporting and delegating work to colleagues within a multidisciplinary team (essential)
• Experience in stress echocardiography, contrast and bubble studies (desirable)
• Experience mentoring trainees or newly qualified Physiologists (desirable)
• Experience participating in clinical audit and quality improvement projects (desirable)
• Experience working within private healthcare services (desirable)
