Full job description

Job Role: Bank - Specialist Dietitian

Monday to Friday

Working within the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton (UHDB) Cancer, diagnostic and clinical support services division and operating across Adults and Paediatrics, this role will be responsible for delivering outpatient clinics as required providing dietary advice on a range of clinical conditions, including but not exclusive to, gastroenterology, renal, oncology, stroke, home enteral nutrition, paediatrics, weight management and allergy.

Requirements

  • Specialist knowledge across a range of work procedures and practices within dietetics underpinned by theory and practical experience, by completing a Degree and State Registration in Dietetics
  • Maintains registration with the Health and Care Professions Council
  • Undertakes specialist post registration clinical training (BDA validated course where available).
  • Has enhanced specialist knowledge and skills through counselling, motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioural therapy
  • To undertake complicated highly complex dietary assessments of patients who are referred for specialist dietetic advice and provide and advise appropriate dietetic treatment options based upon their clinical needs and evidence based outcomes.
  • Assess interpret and monitor blood results in order to provide highly specialised dietary and nutritional advice based on the patients’ condition, symptoms and blood results.
  • Regularly monitor anthropometric measurements for individual patients including weight, height, BMI, weight change, ideal body weight, growth charts, mid arm and waist circumference, skin fold thickness, and hand grip strength.
  • Makes recommendations to the medical/primary care team regarding adjustments of medications that will assist in the nutritional management of the patient (e.g. laxatives, anti- emetic medications, drug/nutrient interactions).
  • Maintains competency and safe practice in the use of weighing scales, stadiometers, food weighing scales, skin fold callipers and Dictaphones.
  • IT literacy is an essential requirement

This role will be subject to NHS working practices and policies in relation to patient care and data handling.
