Job Title: Videographer
Salary: The starting salary is £40,519, which includes allowances totalling £3,009.
The salary is broken down as £37,510 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £40,141. Plus, a location allowance of £2,009 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.
Location: New Scotland Yard, Westminster with frequent travel and operational deployment across London.
Are you a talented videographer with a passion for storytelling and creating content that reaches millions? Do you want to work on projects few other content creators ever get access to?
We're looking for an enthusiastic, creative and technically skilled videographer to join our award-winning Content & Channels team. You'll produce compelling video, photography and digital content that helps tell the stories behind one of the world's most recognised police services.
This is not your typical content role. One day you could be embedded with officers documenting a dawn operation, capturing exclusive behind-the-scenes footage or filming a major policing event. The next, you could be editing dramatic body worn video, producing engaging social media content, or creating documentary-style films that shine a light on the people and work behind policing in London.
From shooting and editing impactful short-form TikToks and Instagram Reels to long-form YouTube feature documentaries and major public information campaigns, you'll create content that informs, engages and inspires audiences across a wide range of digital platforms. You'll work with cutting-edge equipment, collaborate with senior leaders and specialist teams, and help bring complex stories to life through powerful visual storytelling.
The Met is recognised as a leader in digital communications, with a bold and innovative content strategy that engages millions of people every month. Our work is regularly viewed, shared and discussed nationally and internationally, offering a unique opportunity for ambitious creators to build an exceptional portfolio while making a real impact.
If you're passionate about videography, photography and digital storytelling, thrive in a fast-moving environment, and want to create content that matters to Londoners, we'd love to hear from you.
Your main responsibilities
Content Production & Delivery
- Lead the production process from concept to final delivery, including ideation, briefing, coordination, filming, editing and publishing.
- Deliver high-quality content at pace, ensuring outputs meet objectives and deadlines.
- Manage multiple projects and edits simultaneously, maintaining exceptional attention to detail and prioritising competing demands.
- Regularly review and reprioritise work in response to emerging issues, operational requirements and short-notice requests.
Filming, Photography & Technical Expertise
- Independently film and edit studio and on-location content, including interviews, pieces to camera, YouTube features, promotional films, campaign content and event coverage.
- Shoot and edit photography, including portraits, group shots, presentations and large-scale events.
- Select and operate professional camera, lighting and audio equipment, maintaining expert knowledge of production workflows and technical set-ups.
- Transport and manage production equipment when working across locations and operational policing environments.
Creative Development
- Develop compelling creative concepts and provide technical and creative recommendations for fast-paced briefs.
- Present ideas confidently and clearly, demonstrating how creative solutions will deliver strategic outcomes.
- Create engaging short-form social media content tailored for platforms such as Instagram, X, LinkedIn and other emerging channels.
- Design impactful visual assets and digital content that drive audience engagement.
- Balance the production of longer-form documentary-style content with ongoing series, influencer collaborations, CCTV and Body Worn Video edits, and social-first content.
Stakeholder Management & Collaboration
- Direct on-screen talent with confidence, sensitivity and clear creative vision, including senior leaders, police officers, victims of crime and stakeholders.
- Work closely with colleagues across digital, media and communications teams to develop content and maximise its impact.
- Actively seek, receive and incorporate feedback to continuously improve creative outputs.
- Communicate project status, timelines and priorities clearly and confidently to stakeholders.
- Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team of creatives, strategists and communication professionals.
Digital & Social Media Strategy
- Work with digital and communication colleagues to analyse content performance and audience engagement.
- Monitor industry trends, platform developments and emerging best practice to inform creative decision-making.
- Use performance insights to optimise content and support wider digital communications objectives.
Operational Support & Deployment
- Support a 24/7 policing organisation by being available for occasional deployments outside standard office hours, often at short notice.
- Attend operational activity, including raids, major incidents and nighttime policing operations when required.
- Remain flexible and resilient during and after deployments where parameters and creative opportunities evolve and develop.
Essential Experience & Skills
We're looking for an experienced and versatile videographer who combines strong technical expertise with exceptional storytelling skills. You'll be confident working independently, thrive in fast-paced environments, and be passionate about creating high-impact content that engages audiences across multiple platforms.
What you'll bring
- At least three years' professional experience in videography, content production or a related field, or demonstrable equivalent industry expertise.
Outstanding video production skills, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality content from concept through to final delivery.
- Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Premiere Pro, Photoshop and Illustrator. Experience with After Effects is highly desirable.
- Strong self-shooting capabilities, with excellent knowledge of camera operation, audio capture, lighting techniques and talent direction.
- A creative and innovative mindset, with a strong visual eye, excellent storytelling instincts and the confidence to challenge convention and bring fresh ideas to the table.
- A passion for creating exceptional content, coupled with a positive, proactive and solutions-focused approach.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to put contributors at ease and confidently direct a wide range of talent, from senior leaders and subject matter experts to members of the public.
- Experience using professional camera systems and lenses, particularly Sony equipment, would be advantageous.
- A strong understanding of social media platforms, audience behaviours and content performance, using insights to continuously refine and improve creative output.
- A degree or equivalent qualification in media production, film production or a related discipline is desirable, although relevant professional experience and a strong portfolio are equally valued.
What makes this role unique
This role offers opportunities that few videography positions can match. You'll create content in environments that most filmmakers never get access to, capturing compelling stories, inspirational people and real-world operations.
From fast-turnaround social content and major campaigns to cinematic documentary-style productions, you'll have the chance to build an extraordinary portfolio while developing your skills across a diverse range of formats and platforms.
Please note
This role involves regular travel across London often supporting multiple shoots each week. Where work is required outside standard office hours, time can be claimed back or flexibility agreed with your line manager.
You will report to a Senior Digital Content Producer / Senior Content, Channels & Engagement Officer (Band C) and work alongside a highly skilled group of digital content and communication professionals.
Application Process
Applicants are requested to submit a CV along with covering letter setting out your interest, suitability and experience that reflects your potential to thrive in this role.
Please also include a link to a portfolio of your recent work.
Applicants who are shortlisted will be invited to an in-person interview at New Scotland Yard, London.
The assessment will involve preparing a brief presentation slide deck in advance to bring and discuss during the interview.
The subject of the presentation will be provided to shortlisted candidates at least 7 days in advance of the interview.
During the interview, you will deliver your presentation (maximum 5 minutes). This will be followed by a range of competency-based questions that will explore your suitability and vision for the role.
