Full job description

Salary: Up to £39,00 per year

First Rung is a leading independent learning provider with centres in Ponders End (Enfield), Colindale (Barnet) and Hemel Hempstead (Hertfordshire). We are looking for a qualified and experienced Learning Support Coordinator to coordinate and deliver learning support to SEN learners across our 3 centres. (Please note, from August 2025, our Colindale provision will be relocating to a new larger site in Golders Green)

Key duties include:

  • Summarising and disseminating key information about the learning, social and personal development needs of SEN learners
  • Planning to meet the identified needs of SEN learners
  • Working with delivery staff to devise teaching, learning and assessment strategies to meet the needs of SEN learners
  • Providing leadership and support to a small team of learning support assistants
  • Working with centre managers to coordinate the work of learning support assistants
  • Delivering a designated number of teaching sessions
  • Providing learning support in the classroom and centre setting
  • Overseeing the tracking and recording of learner progress and achievement
  • Working collaboratively with parents/carers to support SEN learners

The successful candidate will have a recognised teaching qualification. S/he will have proven experience of coordinating and providing support to young people with learning disabilities. Experience of developing teaching strategies to meet the needs of SEN learners is essential. Excellent administrative and organisational skills as well as proficiency in written English is also a minimum requirement. A proven ability to empathise and work effectively with young people with learning disabilities. So too is the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

The role will involve travel between First Rung's 3 centres so possession of a full, clear driving licence would be helpful.

Safeguarding - As First Rung supports young people and vulnerable adults, staff are exempt from Section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Accordingly, all staff will be subject to an ‘Enhanced’ DBS check and will be required to provide two satisfactory references. Any offers of appointment may be withdrawn if these checks prove to be unsatisfactory to First Rung. Self-disclosure will be required as part of the recruitment process. If you fail to make a full disclosure or provide sight of your DBS certificate then your offer of employment is likely to be withdrawn.
