WE ARE BBC STUDIOS

A globally renowned media company borne of the BBC. We make and distribute the world’s most sought-after TV, audio and digital content.

Our ambition is to be the home of the most powerful, entertaining, and inspiring stories for people all around the world.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Are you a dynamic and driven visualised podcast producer with excellent connections in the entertainment and podcasting worlds? Do you have a passion for developing dazzling ideas and formats with much-loved talent and a determination to make the next big hit podcast? Then this is the position for you.

This is an opportunity to join the award-winning Comedy and Entertainment team at BBC Studios Audio. We make a wide variety of programmes including comedy and entertainment podcasts, radio panel shows, sitcoms and formats. We champion the work of new and emerging talent as well as working with some of the all-time greats.

We make radio and podcasts for BBC Radio 4 and BBC Sounds as well as producing a growing slate of programmes for commercial audio platforms. Our shows include Strong Message Here with Armando Iannucci (BBC Sounds), The Big Pitch with Jimmy Carr (Netflix), Dancing with the Stars: The Official Podcast (Disney/Hulu), Zeroes (Audible) as well as making legendary radio programmes like The News Quiz, Just a Minute and Dead Ringers (Radio 4).

You’ll be tasked with developing and producing new visualised podcasts for the BBC and commercial platforms as well as visualising existing audio content and working on audio only output as required.

This role also involves working closely with the whole team at BBC Studios. You’ll regularly collaborate with Factual and Drama producers and execs in the wider Audio team as well as having the opportunity to work closely with TV colleagues across the BBC Studios Comedy and Entertainment teams.

Please note that there is a similar role being advertised concurrently within the Factual team at BBC Studios Audio. Whilst there is a skills overlap between the two roles, you should apply for the role which feels most appropriate to your experience.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM

This is an opportunity to make a name for yourself as the creative force behind the next generation of big hit entertainment podcasts. You’ll work in collaboration with BBC Studios’ Business Development and Audio Distribution teams to devise, develop and launch high-impact comedy and entertainment podcasts featuring the most exciting talent in the business.

In this role you’ll work on shows from our existing slate as well as responding to internal and external commissioning briefs in the UK and abroad. You’ll also explore possibilities for co-funding podcast production with performing talent and other production houses.

You’ll have proven experience of producing high‑quality audio content and delivering visualised podcast formats. As well as having excellent knowledge of the end to end visualised podcast production process, you’ll also have the ability to apply knowledge of digital audience behaviour to shape content for platforms such as YouTube and emerging video channels.

In this role you’ll build on your existing connections in the podcast industry by proactively developing and maintaining effective relationships with digital talent, contributors and creative teams.

We are looking for a dynamic podcast specialist with a deep knowledge of the current podcast landscape, a proactive attitude and a passion for comedy and entertainment.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
  • Lead the development and delivery of innovative and high-performing audio and audio-visual content for a range of BBC and third-party platforms and partners.
  • Oversee studio and location recordings, managing audio and multi camera workflows to ensure strong sound, visual coherence and editorial integrity.
  • Lead, motivate and support a multidisciplinary production team (audio, video, digital), within our wider production business, delivering a clear editorial vision in line with our over-arching strategy and contributing to an open, creative, safe, supportive and professional workplace culture.
  • Understand and contribute to the creation of shortform content out of your long form content.
  • Work closely with hosts and contributors, managing those relationships and building a durable production model, to capture their best possible performances in both audio and video.
  • Plan and manage production workflows, schedules and budgets in collaboration with Production Management.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
  • Proven experience producing high quality audio content and delivering or contributing to the delivery of video or video podcast formats.
  • A demonstrable passion for developing and innovating compelling audio and video comedy and entertainment formats.
  • Proven experience in proactively building and maintaining effective relationships with talent, contributors and creative teams in the comedy and entertainment industry.
  • Experience overseeing multi camera studio or location shoots, or equivalent visual production workflows.
  • An understanding of podcast commercial frameworks, including revenue, distribution, and platform models for both audio and video.
  • An ability to work effectively in a team and collaborate with others.
If you can bring some of these skills and experience, along with transferable strengths, we’d love to hear from you and encourage you to apply.
