Full job description

As Transport Manager, you will be required to plan and co-ordinate the requirements of customer orders to ensure maximum efficiency.

You’ll be outgoing and committed to your role, and have the confidence to build long lasting relationships with your drivers and customers alike to assist them to meet their daily needs and demands and complete their jobs with success and ease. You will need to provide support to the daily transport operation by completing administration duties such as booking vehicle services, MOT’s, carrying out Tacho downloads and resolving defects.

Your duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Plan and co-ordinate customer orders
  • Support the fleet maintenance for vehicles to comply with current legislation/VOSA and requirements i.e.; Servicing, MOT’s, PMI’s.
  • Ensure all records relating to vehicle maintenance/defects and driver hours are correctly completed and up to date. Supporting and escalating any noncompliance, if necessary.

Responsibilities:

  • Co-ordinate route planning
  • Deal with drivers and any related queries throughout the day
  • Monitor tracker to ensure drivers are completing work to schedule.
  • Allocate and book work throughout the day
  • Communicate effectively with customers and delivery site contacts.
  • You must comply with all health & safety rules of yourself and others who may be affected by your acts or omissions.
  • Undertake such other duties that are required from time to time to commensurate with this position.

Requirements:

  • Must have CPC and experience running HGV vehicles - Ideally in the haulage/aggregate industry
  • Comprehensive knowledge of drivers hours regulations – essential
  • Experience and knowledge of all aspects of transport compliance – essential
  • Able to work in a fast paced changing environment.
  • Good telephone manner

Essential Skills

  • Experience of manual route planning
  • Experience of vehicle tracking system
  • Have a solid and recent understanding of Heath & Safety Regulations, and Transport Legislation
  • Good use of IT systems, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Excellent communication, listening and decision making skills.
  • Good attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure to deadlines.
