Full job description

Excel Resources is looking for an experienced Senior Controller to join a busy and growing transport operation.

This is a hands-on role responsible for the manual allocation and dispatch of live bookings across a fleet of drivers and vehicles, while monitoring jobs throughout the day and ensuring work is completed efficiently and to a high standard.

We are specifically looking for someone with genuine experience in courier, transport, fleet control or dispatch operations.

What we're looking for

You must have:

  • Previous experience manually controlling and dispatching a live fleet.
  • A strong understanding of London, the surrounding areas and London postcodes.
  • Experience within courier, transport, logistics or a similar fast-paced operation.
  • The ability to allocate work intelligently based on location, timing, vehicle type and workload.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think quickly when things change or go wrong.
  • Good computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.
  • The ability to learn new transport systems and software quickly.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • The ability to remain calm and make confident decisions under pressure.

Experience using automated dispatch systems alone will not be considered sufficient. We are looking for someone who has personally and manually controlled a fleet and understands the decision-making involved in live dispatch.

You will be responsible for:

  • Manually allocating and dispatching bookings.
  • Monitoring drivers, vehicles and live jobs.
  • Planning ahead to prevent delays and operational issues.
  • Reallocating work quickly when circumstances change.
  • Solving operational problems before they impact the client.
  • Communicating professionally with drivers, clients and colleagues.
  • Ensuring bookings are followed through from allocation to completion.
  • Supporting the wider Operations team during busy periods.
  • Helping maintain high standards across the control desk.

We are looking for someone who is polite, professional, punctual, dependable and a genuine team player.

You should be someone who thinks ahead, takes ownership and does not wait for someone else to fix a problem.

At Excel Resources, doing "just enough" is never enough. We want people who care about the outcome, look for solutions and want to be part of a growing business.

Although we are looking for an experienced Controller, we also want someone who is comfortable taking direction, open to learning new skills and new ways of working, and willing to take on greater responsibility as the business grows.

We want someone with experience, but equally someone who understands that there is always more to learn and room to develop.

If you have strong manual dispatch experience, know London and its postcodes well, and thrive on solving problems in a fast-moving transport environment, we'd like to hear from you.

Pay: £35,000.00-£40,000.00 per year

Work Location: In person
