Associate Tutor – NEA Marking

English Language, English Literature and Film Studies

learndirect | Remote (England) | Freelance, flexible | £35 per NEA

Are you an experienced English or Film Studies teacher who enjoys marking coursework? learndirect is looking for associate tutors to mark non-examined assessments (NEAs) for our distance learners, working from home and fitting the work around your other commitments.

We're recruiting for each of the subjects below. You don't need to cover all of them, so apply for the one or more that match your expertise.

The subjects

  • AQA A Level English Language: the NEA language investigation and original writing with commentary
  • AQA A Level English Literature: the NEA independent critical study
  • WJEC Eduqas GCSE Film Studies: the NEA production
  • WJEC Eduqas A Level Film Studies: the NEA production

What you'll do

  • mark learners' NEAs accurately and consistently against the awarding body's assessment objectives and mark schemes
  • give clear, constructive written feedback that helps learners understand their marks
  • follow JCQ and awarding body rules on authentication, malpractice and the use of AI
  • complete marking within agreed turnaround times, especially during busy periods ahead of submission deadlines
  • take part in internal standardisation and quality assurance so marks hold up at moderation
  • keep accurate records in our online systems

About you

Essential:

  • a degree in your specialist subject
  • a recognised teaching qualification (QTS, PGCE, Cert Ed or equivalent)
  • recent experience teaching and marking NEA for the specification(s) you're applying for
  • a thorough understanding of the relevant assessment objectives and mark schemes
  • reliable, organised and able to meet deadlines while working independently
  • confident with online systems, with your own computer and a reliable internet connection
  • a valid and current DBS certificate

Desirable:

  • experience as an examiner or moderator for AQA or WJEC Eduqas
  • experience teaching adult or distance learners

What we offer

  • £35 per NEA marked
  • fully remote, flexible work that you can fit around teaching or other commitments
  • support and standardisation from our faculty team

Eligibility

This is a remote role, but you must live in England and already have the right to work in the UK. You must also hold a valid and current DBS certificate. We're unable to offer visa sponsorship.
