Full job description

Canine Welfare Assistant - THURSDAYS AND ALTERNATE DAYS AT WEEKENDS

SHAK is a dog sanctuary (Registered charity www.shak.org.uk) based to the north of Morpeth, Northumberland. Providing sanctuary and potential rehoming to dogs who would otherwise be facing euthanasia.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for somebody special to join our team in caring for the dogs nobody else wants.

PART TIME Canine Welfare Assistant.

The position is for an initial 3 months (Opportunity to extend)

We are looking for a passionate individual committed to animal welfare and morally invested in our cause. The successful candidate will need to be physically fit, hard working, flexible, a strong team player, but able to work under their own initiative and alongside our small team of staff and volunteers.

They will be able to see past the traumas and suffering our dogs have suffered previously, viewing them as individuals and appreciating their quirks, with motivation to make their lives better.

The successful candidate will have a genuine interest in hands on learning with behaviourally complex dogs, dealing with stressful situations which may occur and willing to be trained in every part of the job.

It is important they understand how lucky they are to be one of the very few people some of our dogs will ever trust.

The hours are 8-4 on Thursday and alternative Saturdays and Sundays including bank holidays, Christmas etc. Wage is National Minimum Wage.

The role requires working outside in all weathers. Previous experience of working with dogs, either paid or unpaid is preferred.

Due to the location of the kennels, own transport is essential.
