Job details
Full job description
Irthlingborough and surrounding areas | Permanent | 30 hours per week guaranteed
Starting pay: £12.71 per hour, progressing to £14 within the first year | First pay review after six months | Company van to take home
Eligible team members can earn up to £300 per month through our bonus scheme.
Build a career working with animals at Paragon Pet Care. We’re looking for a reliable, thoughtful person to join our team. You’ll receive full training, practical support and the opportunity to develop your skills in dog handling and animal care.
Most of your working day will involve collecting dogs, transporting them safely in a company van and leading structured walks. You’ll help dogs practice calm walking, recall and appropriate social behaviour. You’ll also care for cats and other pets in their homes, follow their individual care plans and keep owners updated.
What we offer
- A permanent contract with 30 hours per week guaranteed, with opportunities for additional hours
- A company van to take home, with work fuel and authorised vehicle expenses paid
- Uniform and professional equipment
- Full training in dog handling, behaviour, group walks and care for other species
- Canine Emergency First Aid training and ongoing development
- A first pay review after six months, with progression opportunities up to £16 per hour as your skills and responsibilities develop
- Eligibility for a monthly bonus of up to £300, subject to the bonus scheme criteria
Your working week
This is a Monday to Friday role. You’ll need to be available during our usual 08:00–17:30 working window, with your daily hours scheduled around client visits. You’ll receive your schedule the week before, and many clients follow a regular weekly pattern.
Overnight pet sitting is shared across the team and paid separately, usually at £50 per night. Stays are normally a few nights at a time. Based on current demand, you might expect an overnight assignment roughly once every two months, although this can vary. Some stays may include weekends or bank holidays.
What we’re looking for
- A home address within approximately 7 miles of Irthlingborough, so our local routes and take-home van arrangement work efficiently
- Experience caring for animals through work, volunteering or another practical setting
- A full UK manual driving licence; our current vehicle insurance requires drivers to be 21 or over
- The ability to work independently, follow care instructions and communicate clearly
- Confidence working outdoors and a willingness to learn how to handle dogs with different needs
- Availability for the working pattern above and a fair share of overnight stays
You won’t be expected to lead complex group walks immediately. We’ll train you in Paragon’s methods and increase your responsibilities as you develop your skills and demonstrate safe handling. Fully trained team members may occasionally walk up to six dogs, although most groups are smaller.
Paragon Pet Care provides veterinary-led, training-led pet care across Irthlingborough, Wellingborough and nearby areas. If you want purposeful work with animals and a team that invests in your development, we’d like to hear from you.
How to apply: Submit your CV through Indeed and tell us briefly about your animal-care experience and why this role interests you.
