Overview
The Animal Care Team Leader plays a pivotal role in overseeing the daily operations of our animal care facility. This position is responsible for ensuring the health and well-being of all animals in our care, while also managing a team of dedicated staff. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in animal care and veterinary practices, combined with excellent customer service skills to engage with pet owners and the community.

The Charity is about to open a new purpose built kennel block and this post offers an opportunity to help shape the way we work going forward.

You will work 5 days out of 7 on a rota basis. On site accommodation is available.

Duties

  • Supervise and train staff in proper animal care techniques and protocols.
  • Ensure all animals receive appropriate medical attention, including vaccinations and treatments as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of animal health, behaviour, and treatment plans.
  • Oversee daily feeding, cleaning, and exercise routines for all animals.
  • Engage with pet owners to provide information on animal care and behaviour.
  • Coordinate with veterinary professionals for regular check-ups and emergency situations.
  • Implement safety protocols to ensure a safe environment for both animals and staff.
  • Manage inventory of supplies related to animal care, ensuring adequate stock levels are maintained.
  • Manage and organise the rota for animal care staff

Skills

  • Proven experience in animal care is essential.
  • Strong understanding of animal behaviour and health management.
  • Good I.T. skills in database and website management.
  • Excellent customer service skills to effectively communicate with pet owners and address their concerns.
  • Strong organisational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with staff and volunteers while also demonstrating leadership capabilities.

Experience

  • Practical experience of dealing with challenging behaviour of dogs in a kennels environment is essential.
  • Practical experience of dealing with the public in an animal welfare setting is essential.
  • A formal qualification or training in dog training would be desirable
