Full job description
We are pleased to advertise multiple roles for our ever growing specialist pet care team. We ask that you thoroughly read this job description, as we know this may sound like the dream job but there is an awful lot that goes into running the company and we are looking for serious candidates that want to pursue a career within the pet care industry. This job is not for the faint hearted and it certainly isn't a 'walk in the park'. We walk many challenging dogs and there is lots of protocol to adhere to and follow.
So that's the serious bit (mostly) over. We are looking for committed, reliable and resilient people to join our team. A good level of organisation and efficiency/time keeping is also favorable, although successful candidates will soon pick up the ins and outs and what makes a day run smoothly. Due to the nature of the role a good level of fitness is needed and you need to be confident handling big, strong dogs. We are not saying that you have to want to be in the gym 24/7, believe me I don't, but it is a very physically demanding role and one that can take it out of you at times. Generally we start people off at an easier pace but as your experience and confidence grows, so will your workload. This, of course, is also an all weather job - applicants will need to be happy out in the weather that the South West throws at us.
The hours for the role typically sit between 9:00-3:00 or 8:30-3:30 on busier days. Successful applicants will complete four weeks of paid training, which will consist of shadowing existing members of the team. We also offer personal development opportunities. Previous experience in the role is not required, we just ask for an eagerness to learn and fantastic moral conduct. The role is on a Self-Employed basis and rates of pay are dependent on how much you work. Once you have gained knowledge and experience a group walker can easily earn in excess of £350.00 per week before tax. Due to the driving aspects of this role, you will need a full UK driving license. It is preferred that you have your own car, but it is not essential. Please also note, for insurance purposes you must be over 21 to use our vehicles, applicants under the age of 21 will be expected to supply and insure their own appropriate vehicle. There is a lot of driving in this role, this includes getting to destinations, parking and driving down narrow streets. We want the applicant to be a competent driver who is comfortable navigating a variety of road situations.
Another thing to consider is although, there will be times that you see the other walkers, you will primarily be on your own. You need to be comfortable with being out and about with no one else other than the animals for company. This also means it is vital you are self-motivated and good at communicating updates regarding dogs and your day.
We are looking for an immediate start for the right applicants. People who are thinking of applying just because they do not want to interact with people need not apply, our human clients are as important to us as our pet clients and can quite regularly be in when you go to pick up the dogs. You will also find yourself in a variety of situations with the general public that you will need to be comfortable with.
We are looking forward to hearing from you and are excited about the prospect of having a couple of new members join our existing team!
Applications submitted WITHOUT a covering letter WILL NOT be considered. We are looking for passionate and enthusiastic individuals, we would like to know a little about you and why you would like the role. It really does show a level of commitment to wanting the job if you can provide a covering letter.
Please send your covering letter to hq@ arcapets.co.uk
