Experienced Kennel and Cattery Assistant
Job details
Full job description
Raining Cats and Dogs Kennels & Cattery is seeking an experienced and highly competent individual to join our professional team.
This is not an entry-level animal care position. We are looking for a confident, knowledgeable Kennel and Cattery Assistant with proven experience working with a wide range of breeds, including large, powerful, and high-drive dogs. The successful applicant must be capable of maintaining control, making sound decisions under pressure, and upholding the highest standards of animal welfare, safety, and facility management.
Our facility cares for dogs with varying needs, temperaments, and training backgrounds. As such, we require individuals who possess excellent handling skills, strong observational abilities, and the confidence to work independently when required.
Key Responsibilities
* Safe and confident handling of dogs of all breeds, sizes, and temperaments.
* Maintaining exceptional standards of kennel and cattery hygiene, cleanliness, and biosecurity.
* Monitoring animal health, behaviour, and welfare, identifying and reporting concerns promptly.
* Exercising, caring for, and managing dogs in accordance with individual requirements.
* Ensuring all cleaning, feeding, medication, and welfare protocols are followed meticulously.
* Maintaining accurate records and communicating effectively with colleagues and management.
* Contributing positively to a professional team environment while being capable of working independently.
Essential Requirements
* Demonstrable experience working with a wide variety of dog breeds, including large and powerful dogs.
* Previous employment within kennels, working dog environments, veterinary practice, rescue centres, boarding facilities, training establishments, or similar professional settings.
* Excellent understanding of canine behaviour and body language.
* Confidence handling challenging, energetic, or strong dogs in a calm and professional manner.
* Exceptional attention to detail and pride in maintaining immaculate standards of cleanliness and presentation.
* Ability to work using your own initiative without constant supervision.
* Reliable, punctual, physically fit, and capable of working in all weather conditions.
* A professional attitude and commitment to maintaining the reputation and standards of the business.
Desirable Qualifications
* Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Animal Care, Animal Management, or a related field.
* Canine first aid certification.
* Experience within dog training, working dog, behavioural, or specialist handling environments.
Please Do Not Apply If:
* You have only personal pet ownership experience.
* You are uncomfortable handling large or powerful dogs.
* You are not flexible and unavailable bank holidays, Festive periods and weekends.
* You do not take pride in cleaning and maintaining exceptionally high standards.
What We Offer
* The opportunity to work within a respected and professional animal care environment.
* A varied and rewarding role working with a wide range of dogs and cats.
* Ongoing development and the chance to further your handling and animal care experience.
* A supportive team that is committed to maintaining the highest standards of welfare and professionalism.
We are seeking individuals who view animal care as a profession, not simply a hobby. If you have the experience, confidence, and attention to detail required to excel in this role, we would like to hear from you.
Please send your CV and a covering letter detailing your relevant experience.
