To join our engineering team in Southampton, we are currently recruiting a Part-Time Electrically Biased Skilled Technician. We are looking for someone that has experience as an Electrical, control and instrumentation technician and has worked on programmable logistic controllers and has the ability to fault find on pieces of equipment with PLC's.

This position will be a part of a job share that covers the following part-time pattern split:

Day Shift: 07:00 am – 19:00 pm & Night Shift: 19:00 pm – 07:00 am

Person 1: 2 Day Shifts, 6 Days off, 2 Night Shifts, 8 Days off, 2 Days shifts & 4 Days off.

Person 2: 6 Days off, 2 Day Shifts, 4 Days off, 2 Day Shifts, 6 Days Off, 2 Night Shifts and 2 Days off

About The Role
How will you contribute:

  • Planned maintenance, repairs and general upkeep on the Container Cranes, Crane Spreaders, Man Carrying Cages, Terminal Trailers, including Mafi Trailers & all equipment trailers.
  • Installation and repair of various security systems to include vehicle barriers and CCTV.
  • Design and manufacture bespoke fabrications, both electrical and mechanical as and when directed.
  • Accept Permits to work, and limitations of access to work on High Voltage Electrical Systems.
  • Drive cranes, tug master, IMV drawbar trailer, Simons Tower or equivalent, Forklift Truck and company vehicles for maintenance purposes.
  • Be conversant with drive and control systems of Cranes and Spreaders and understand all the associated software packages.
  • Ability to drive tractor and tow 5th wheel and drawbar trailers.
  • Work on terminal electrical systems i.e., high mast lighting, reefers etc.
  • Be conversant with all hydraulic systems based on cranes and crane spreaders.

What will you Bring.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

  • Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship ideally NVQ3 in Engineering Maintenance and BTEC Level 3 extended diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to work at height and in tight spaces.
  • Previous experience in Container handling equipment is beneficial along with electrical experience, working with voltage between 12v – 6600v.
  • Knowledge in PLC control systems is required
  • Ability to follow and understand electrical/hydraulic/mechanical drawings.
  • Experience in mechanical, working with pneumatics and hydraulics, diesel engines and general heavy fitting.
  • Good Welding and Fabrication skills
