Full job description

Overview

Churchfarm Maintenance is a growing construction and maintenance company delivering refurbishment, maintenance and passive fire protection works across the South West. We are looking for a Mobile Small Works Site Manager to join our passive fire protection team.

Our passive fire protection work includes fire door installation and maintenance, firestopping and compartmentation works.

You do not need to be an experienced tradesperson or already have specialist passive fire knowledge to be considered. We are willing to invest in training the right individual. The position offers the opportunity to progressively develop technical knowledge and take on more specialised responsibilities with the support of our existing management team.

Key responsibilities

Initial responsibilities

  • Coordinate day-to-day passive fire protection works across multiple sites, working closely with our existing management team.
  • Act as a professional point of contact for clients and site representatives, maintaining strong working relationships and communicating clearly throughout projects.
  • Represent the company positively through a professional, competent, approachable and proactive manner.
  • Anticipate potential problems, identify issues at an early stage and take appropriate action to prevent delays, errors or unnecessary costs.
  • Coordinate operatives and subcontractors, and monitor project progress.
  • Visit sites regularly to check progress, workmanship, site conditions and any outstanding issues.
  • Carry out routine quality checks, identify defects and ensure that corrective actions are followed through.
  • Maintain accurate records using Onetrace, including installation photographs, inspection records and progress updates.
  • Keep clients informed of project progress, address their queries professionally and provide timely updates on any issues or changes.
  • Support site health and safety requirements, including inductions, toolbox talks, risk assessments and method statements.
  • Take ownership of site issues, following them through to resolution and escalating technical or compliance concerns where necessary.
  • Monitor progress against agreed programmes and completion dates.

Development and progression

As you gain experience and receive further training, you will progressively become involved in more technical aspects of our passive fire protection work.

These responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out detailed site surveys for specialist fire doors, firestopping and compartmentation works.
  • Taking and verifying highly accurate measurements for bespoke fire doors and other specialist installations
  • Learning to interpret technical drawings, door schedules, specifications and relevant installation requirements.
  • Identifying discrepancies between drawings, site conditions and specifications, and investigating appropriate solutions.
  • Developing an understanding of passive fire protection requirements, installation standards and compliance documentation.
  • Taking greater responsibility for checking technical details and resolving issues
  • Developing the confidence and technical knowledge to handle increasingly complex site issues

You will not be expected to undertake these specialist technical responsibilities independently from the outset. Training, practical experience and guidance will be provided as your knowledge develops.

What we're looking for

Essential requirements:

  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Ability to travel between multiple sites.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Confidence engaging directly with clients and representing the company professionally.
  • Competence with everyday computer applications
  • Willingness to undertake relevant training.
  • Ability to meet site access requirements, including a DBS check.

What we offer

  • £43,000–£47,000 per year, depending on experience.
  • Company vehicle.
  • 28 days' annual leave.
  • Ongoing training and professional development, including passive fire protection requirements.
  • The opportunity to develop specialist technical knowledge and take on increasing responsibility.
  • A varied role involving multiple projects, practical challenges and regular client interaction.
  • A stable, long-term position within a growing company.

Working arrangements

Most of your time will be spent visiting and coordinating works across sites in the South West, with some time at our Bristol office each week.

You'll work directly with our existing management team, with support available for technical decisions and specialist compliance matters.
