General Role Description

Whilst this role involves driving all over the UK our primary concern is to find someone who can handle pets of all shapes sizes and temperaments. You’ll be collecting pets and bringing them back to the kennels in Tarbay, Nr. Windsor and collecting them from the kennels/cattery and taking them to the airports for their check-ins. The job will involve some start times very early in the morning and some end times of around 1930 in the evening. This is very much not a 9-5 job and any applicant must be extremely flexible regarding working times. Weekends/Bank holidays will have to be worked on a rota system.

Role Spec:

· To ensure the safe collection/delivery of pets

· To ensure the safety & welfare of any pet(s) in your care at all times

· To check pets into the kennel, to ensure they are fed, watered and comfortable

· To drive PetAir UK owned vehicles in a safe, consistent and legal manner never endangering yourself, other road users/pedestrians or pets

· To ensure the airline travel kennel is clean and prepared for flight

· Ensure you have the correct travel kennel for the correct pet

· To chip scan ANY pet to be assured you have collected the correct pet / delivered the correct pets to the correct flight

· Ensure that under NO circumstances a pet(s) has an opportunity to escape AT ANY TIME – reasonable precaution essential. Company protocols must be followed

· Obey all speed limits and driving laws

· Ensure the vehicle is always clean both inside and out

· To ensure your any vehicle driven by you is roadworthy and fit for purpose

· To report any damage to our or other vehicles/property immediately

· To follow best practices described by the operation manager or any senior member in the PetAir team

· To plan your day, based on collection/delivery times provided to you to ensure that you are never late for either a collection/delivery to/from either a client or a pet check-in

· To notify a Manager/team member at the first sign you’ll be late to any required destination

· As the ‘face’ of PetAir you must present yourself to ALL people encountered in the discourse of your duties with a high level of compassion, understanding, patience and professionalism

· Maintain a flexible attitude to work start and end times

· Although rare, on any day where there is no requirement to drive you will expected to perform ad hoc duties. This can include assisting another driver or cleaning of your vehicle

Pay

£27,000 - £30,000 Per annum, depending on experience

25 days holiday and bank holidays* Plus a days holiday for your birthday.

*bank holidays and weekends are worked in a rota basis either as 1 in 4 or 1 in 5 (Should you be required to work on a weekend or bank holiday you will be paid at a rate of £12.50 an hour)

There will be a six month probation period

Requirements (About you):

· Well presented

· Has worked with or can demonstrate you understand pets comprehensively

· Extremely reliable

· Honest and caring

· Empathetic with the owners of the pets

· Must be helpful and keen to go the extra mile to make sure our clients and their pets are looked after

· Competent driver of medium to large vans

· Clean License

· Physically Fit

· Ideally have a passport

· Own transport (get to and from work)

A Typical Day

Depending on your start time we’d expect you to come in early either for an ‘early’ or a ‘late’ start before you need to drive anywhere to prepare. Normally you can get everything ready the day before. Ensure you have the required paperwork, prepare the travel kennel, handle and put the pets in the travel kennel and deliver to the cargo centre at the respective airport or collect from an owner’s house. If collecting from an owner’s house you will make sure you have collected the correct paperwork, used the correct travel kennel, bring them back to base and ‘check’ them into the kennel – again ensuring they have everything they need. Days are typically 8-11 hours long but can sometimes be longer during peak times. Some days will be shorter.
