National Drainage & Plumbing Engineer

SMARTi Environmental Ltd

Salary: £34,000–£40,000 per annum, depending on experience
Job type: Full-time, permanent
Location: Nationwide – UK field-based role
Travel: Regular UK travel and overnight stays required

About SMARTi Environmental

SMARTi Environmental is a growing UK water management and sustainability business specialising in innovative water-saving technologies, drainage solutions and commercial plumbing services.

We work with major organisations across the UK and Europe, delivering projects that reduce water consumption, improve drainage performance and help businesses lower their environmental impact and operating costs.

Our services include waterless urinal conversions, CCTV drainage inspections, drainage clearance, pipework replacement, water efficiency upgrades, planned servicing and maintenance.

As our business continues to expand, we are looking for an experienced, motivated and versatile Drainage & Plumbing Engineer to join our national engineering team.

About the Role

This is a varied, hands-on position combining specialist drainage work, commercial plumbing, planned maintenance and national project delivery.

Drainage investigations, CCTV surveys, blockage clearance and associated remedial works will form a key part of the role. However, you will also be trained to install, maintain and service SMARTi's patented waterless urinal technology and support wider water-saving projects.

You will work independently and alongside other SMARTi engineers, travelling to commercial and industrial client sites throughout the UK.

This is a national role, not restricted to any particular region. Regular travel and staying away from home are essential parts of the position, particularly when supporting larger installation programmes and project deliveries.

We are looking for someone who takes pride in their workmanship, enjoys solving technical problems and is comfortable representing SMARTi professionally on customer sites.

Key Responsibilities

Drainage & CCTV Services

  • Carry out CCTV drainage inspections, identifying blockages, defects, poor pipework installations and drainage performance issues.
  • Undertake drainage clearance, rodding, mechanical cleaning and high-pressure water jetting where trained and authorised.
  • Diagnose drainage problems and recommend practical, effective remedial solutions.
  • Carry out drainage repairs, pipework replacements and associated plumbing alterations.
  • Record findings, photographs and recommendations in clear, professional site reports.
  • Support planned and reactive drainage maintenance across customer sites.

Plumbing & SMARTi Installations

  • Convert conventional flushing urinals to SMARTi waterless systems.
  • Undertake commercial plumbing installations, repairs and modifications.
  • Install and replace waste pipework, traps, valves, fittings and associated components.
  • Carry out planned servicing, preventative maintenance and remedial works.
  • Support water-saving installations, washroom upgrades and other SMARTi environmental projects.
  • Identify additional plumbing and drainage improvements that would benefit clients.

National Project Delivery

  • Travel throughout the UK to complete scheduled engineering work and larger installation projects.
  • Work as part of an engineering team on multi-site programmes.
  • Support project delivery to agreed timescales, quality standards and customer requirements.
  • Liaise professionally with site managers, facilities teams, contractors and SMARTi's operations team.
  • Complete job records, photographs, service reports and relevant health and safety documentation.
  • Follow site-specific RAMS, permit-to-work requirements and safe working procedures.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Minimum Level 2 NVQ or equivalent recognised qualification in Plumbing and Heating.
  • Practical experience in plumbing installations, repairs and maintenance.
  • Experience in drainage investigations, blockage clearance or drainage maintenance.
  • Good understanding of commercial waste pipework and drainage systems.
  • Competence using hand tools, power tools and associated plumbing equipment.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Willingness and flexibility to travel nationwide and stay away overnight when required.
  • Ability to work independently, manage workload and solve technical problems.
  • Good communication skills and a professional approach to customer service.
  • Ability to meet DBS and site security clearance requirements where necessary.

Desirable

  • CCTV drainage inspection and reporting experience.
  • High-pressure water jetting experience and relevant certification.
  • OS19X / MSCC5 CCTV drainage survey qualification or equivalent.
  • Confined space training.
  • CSCS card or relevant site safety certification.
  • Experience working on commercial, industrial or facilities management contracts.
  • Experience delivering multi-site projects or supervising small installation teams.

Full SMARTi Academy Training Provided

Every successful candidate will receive training through our SMARTi Academy, giving you the specialist knowledge and practical skills needed to confidently install, maintain and service SMARTi's water-saving technology.

Training will include:

  • SMARTi patented waterless urinal technology and operating principles.
  • Waterless urinal conversion and installation procedures.
  • SMARTi valve installation, servicing and replacement.
  • Drainage and waste pipework requirements associated with waterless systems.
  • Fault identification, troubleshooting and remedial procedures.
  • SMARTi cleaning and maintenance standards.
  • Planned preventative maintenance and servicing procedures.
  • Customer training and technical support.
  • SMARTi quality standards, reporting and installation best practices.

This training is provided as part of your employment. Previous experience with waterless urinals is not required.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary of £34,000–£40,000, dependent on skills and experience.
  • Full-time, permanent employment.
  • Comprehensive SMARTi Academy training.
  • Opportunities for further technical training and professional development.
  • Company vehicle and equipment provided for business use.
  • Business travel and overnight accommodation arranged or covered by the company.
  • Company pension.
  • The opportunity to work with major national and international clients.
  • A varied role combining technical engineering, problem-solving and project delivery.
  • Career development opportunities within a growing environmental engineering business.

Who We're Looking For

We are not looking for someone who simply wants to complete the same routine jobs every day.

We want a practical, dependable engineer who enjoys variety, takes ownership of their work and can adapt to different sites, customers and technical challenges.

You should be equally comfortable investigating a blocked drainage system, replacing defective pipework, carrying out a commercial plumbing repair or working alongside colleagues on a major SMARTi installation programme.

Above all, you must be willing to travel, work as part of a team and help us deliver consistently high standards for our customers.

Apply Today

If you have a solid plumbing background, drainage experience and the ambition to develop your skills within a growing national business, we would like to hear from you.
