Full job description

Job Title: Estimator

Location: Ongar, Essex (Office-based with occasional site visits)
Department: Estimates / Commercial
Reports to: Estimates Manager

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Estimator to join our growing commercial team. This role is critical in converting technical opportunity into profitable revenue, ensuring estimates are accurate, competitive and aligned with operational delivery.

The successful candidate will take ownership of the estimates they produce, working closely with Sector Managers, Technical Service Managers and CCTV teams to deliver a best-in-class client experience while protecting margin, quality and delivery standards.

This is a commercially active role, suited to an estimator who is comfortable progressing their own work through to conversion rather than simply issuing quotations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate, detailed and commercially robust estimates across drainage, plumbing, CCTV, excavations and associated remedial works.
  • Take ownership of quotes from issue through to conversion, proactively following up and supporting the sales process.
  • Ensure all pricing aligns with agreed pricing frameworks, margin expectations and company standards.
  • Work collaboratively with Sector Managers to understand client requirements and sector-specific expectations.
  • Liaise closely with Technical Service Managers and CCTV teams to ensure technical scope, methodology and feasibility are correctly captured.
  • Identify additional scope, follow-on works and upsell opportunities through surveys, inspections and job intelligence.
  • Maintain clear and accurate records of estimates, assumptions and correspondence within internal systems (e.g. CRM and job management platforms).
  • Support tender submissions and framework pricing where required.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of pricing models, estimating processes and commercial reporting.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience in an estimating role within drainage, plumbing, construction, utilities or a related technical services environment.
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to price accurately, competitively and consistently.
  • Confident communicator, able to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail with strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple estimates concurrently while meeting agreed turnaround times.

Desirable

  • Experience working alongside CCTV, remedial or excavation services.
  • Familiarity with CRM or job management systems (e.g. HubSpot, BigChange or similar).
  • Experience supporting tender submissions or framework pricing.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary aligned to experience
  • Performance-related incentives
  • Clear progression opportunities within a growing commercial structure
  • A collaborative and supportive working environment
  • The opportunity to play a key role in the growth of a market-leading service provider

Why Join Us

This is an opportunity to join a business that values ownership, collaboration and commercial excellence. You will be trusted to manage your own workload, supported by experienced operational teams and given clear pathways to develop as the business continues to scale.
