Senior Drainage Engineer / Technical Lead

Build & Lead Our Growing SewerFix Division

Location: Guildford, Surrey (covering London & the South of England)
Salary: £36,000 – £55,000 depending on experience, plus overtime, commission and genuine career progression.

Not Just Another Drainage Engineer Role...

We're looking for an exceptional drainage engineer—someone who enjoys solving the jobs that other engineers can't.

This is a rare opportunity to become the founding technical lead of our growing SewerFix division. You won't simply be carrying out drainage works; you'll play a key role in shaping the future of the business, influencing how the division develops, helping to recruit and mentor future engineers, and becoming the technical expert customers and colleagues rely on.

If you're the engineer everyone calls when they can't find the problem, we'd love to hear from you.

About Thornemere Limited

Thornemere Limited is a growing property services business with an excellent reputation for solving complex problems and delivering exceptional customer service. Through our SewerFix brand, we're investing in building a first-class drainage division, and we're looking for the right person to help lead that journey.

We're committed to investing in the right equipment, supporting our people, and giving experienced professionals the autonomy to do what they do best.

The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to become the technical lead for our drainage division and help shape its future.

As our Senior Drainage Engineer, you will:

  • Lead complex drainage investigations and fault finding.
  • Carry out CCTV surveys and produce professional reports.
  • Diagnose and permanently resolve drainage issues rather than applying temporary fixes.
  • Advise customers on the most appropriate repair solutions.
  • Recommend improvements to equipment, systems and working practices.
  • Help develop and grow the SewerFix brand.
  • Support and mentor future drainage engineers as the team expands.
  • Work closely with senior management to build a market-leading drainage service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out CCTV drain surveys and prepare detailed reports.
  • Diagnose faults within foul water, surface water and drainage systems.
  • Complete no-dig repairs including resin lining and patch lining.
  • Undertake excavation, dig-down repairs and new pipe installations.
  • Install inspection chambers and drainage infrastructure.
  • Carry out drain tracing and complex fault diagnosis.
  • Identify root causes rather than simply treating symptoms.
  • Recommend appropriate repair solutions to customers.
  • Identify additional work opportunities where appropriate.
  • Complete accurate reports and job documentation.
  • Maintain company vehicle, specialist equipment and tools.
  • Represent Thornemere professionally on every job.

We're Looking For Someone Who Has

Essential

  • Significant experience within the drainage industry.
  • Strong CCTV survey and reporting experience.
  • Excellent fault-finding and diagnostic ability.
  • Experience carrying out no-dig repairs.
  • Excavation and drainage repair experience.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Professional communication skills.
  • Strong written English.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Right to work in the UK.

Highly Desirable

Experience in any of the following:

  • Complex drainage investigations.
  • Commercial drainage systems.
  • Root ingress investigations.
  • Drain mapping and tracing.
  • Structural drainage defects.
  • High-pressure water jetting.
  • Insurance-related drainage investigations.
  • Large drainage repair projects.
  • Leadership or mentoring experience.

This Role Is Ideal For Someone Who

  • Enjoys solving technically challenging problems.
  • Takes pride in doing the job properly.
  • Wants autonomy and responsibility.
  • Enjoys helping customers.
  • Can build trust with clients.
  • Wants to help grow a business rather than simply work for one.
  • Is ready to step into a leadership role as the division expands.

What We Offer

  • £36,000–£55,000 salary depending on experience.
  • Overtime paid.
  • Uncapped commission and bonus opportunities.
  • Company vehicle.
  • Company mobile phone.
  • Specialist tools and equipment.
  • Full PPE and uniform.
  • Ongoing training and development.
  • Company pension.
  • Wellness scheme.
  • Office support team managing your diary.
  • 28 days holiday increasing to 33 days .
  • Genuine opportunity to progress into managing a growing drainage division.
