Build your career with Wrights of Twycross
Wrights of Twycross Ltd is an established, family-run transport, environmental and waste management business, delivering essential services to major water and utility providers, alongside customers across the industrial, construction and agricultural sectors.
With more than 70 years of heritage, a reputation built on reliability and service, and a modern, specialist fleet, we continue to invest in our people, equipment and operations to support our growing customer base nationwide.
We are now looking for enthusiastic, reliable and hardworking Projects General Operatives to join our expanding Projects Team.
Whether you have previous experience in drainage, industrial cleaning, construction, agriculture or plant operations, or you're looking to develop new skills, this is an excellent opportunity to build a career within a specialist operational environment.
The opportunity
Our Projects Team delivers a diverse range of drainage, cleansing, surveying and environmental services nationwide. No two days are the same, offering the opportunity to work across different projects, operate specialist equipment and develop a broad range of practical skills.
Working alongside our Jet Vac Drivers, CCTV Teams and specialist project crews, you'll play an important role in delivering essential services to major utility providers and commercial customers.
From supporting high-pressure water jetting and sewer cleansing to operating pumps, mobile dewatering plants and agricultural equipment, this is a varied, hands-on role suited to people who enjoy practical work and being part of a team.
Full training and development opportunities are available, and candidates with experience in farming, tractors, plant machinery, construction or industrial operations are particularly encouraged to apply.
Pay and working hours
- Monday to Friday: £14.30–£15.10 per hour, depending on experience.
- Saturday and Sunday: £21.45–£22.65 per hour, depending on experience.
- Guaranteed hours: 40 hours per week.
- Pay frequency: Four-weekly.
Our normal working day is based around a 12-hour shift, reflecting the nature of our project work and customer commitments. However, no two days are the same. Depending on workload, travel, job requirements and operational demands, some shifts may be shorter, while others may run longer.
Flexibility is an important part of the role. We are looking for people who take pride in their work, support their colleagues and understand the importance of delivering projects safely and efficiently.
Key responsibilities
As a Projects General Operative, your responsibilities will include:
- Jet Vac Operations – Assisting Jet Vac Drivers with job set-ups, equipment preparation and high-pressure water jetting operations.
- Pumping Operations – Supporting the operation of Selwood pumps, including setting up, monitoring and maintaining equipment.
- Screening and Pipework – Installing and setting up screening equipment, hoses and pipework to support project delivery.
- CCTV and Sewer Operations – Assisting with sewer cleansing, drainage surveying and supporting our CCTV Teams.
- Mobile Dewatering – Supporting the operation of specialist mobile dewatering plants, including centrifuges.
- Plant and Tractor Operations – Operating plant machinery and tractors where trained and authorised, with training provided where required.
- Project Support – Carrying out general site duties to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently and to the required standard.
- Equipment and Vehicle Checks – Completing inspections and reporting defects to maintain safe working conditions.
- Health, Safety and Environmental Standards – Following risk assessments, safe systems of work and site-specific requirements.
- Teamwork and Customer Service – Working collaboratively with colleagues and representing Wrights of Twycross professionally on customer sites.
What we're looking for
To join our team, you'll need:
- A reliable, hardworking and positive attitude.
- A willingness to learn and develop new skills.
- A strong commitment to health, safety and environmental standards.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- A flexible approach to working across different sites and operational activities.
- The ability to undertake practical, hands-on work in varied environments.
- The ability to commute to your relevant operating location.
A full, valid UK driving licence with no more than six penalty points is required, subject to our licence and insurance requirements.
Previous experience in drainage, jetting, construction, agriculture, plant machinery or industrial operations is advantageous but not essential. We are particularly keen to hear from candidates with farming or tractor experience, although training will be provided for relevant duties.
Please note that company vehicles are not provided for commuting or taking home.

We recognise that the right people may not hold all these qualifications when they join us. Training and development opportunities are available to help you build your knowledge, experience and competence within our specialist operations.
Employee benefits
We recognise the importance of supporting our people, both at work and beyond. Our benefits include:
- Guaranteed Hours – 40 guaranteed hours of work per week.
- Four-Weekly Pay – A consistent four-weekly pay schedule.
- Annual Leave – 28 days' annual leave, inclusive of bank holidays, increasing to 33 days with length of service.
