Harris Campers is a Scottish luxury campervan hire and travel experience company, specialising in premium Volkswagen California Ocean campervans and bespoke Scottish adventures. Following two

successful seasons, we are preparing for our third season in 2027, which is shaping up to be our busiest yet. We are proud of our exceptional customer service, attention to detail and high standards of vehicle presentation.

The opportunity

We are seeking a motivated, reliable and hands-on Vehicle Maintenance & Fleet Operations Assistant to help maintain, prepare and coordinate our campervan fleet. This varied role combines practical inspections, minor maintenance, cleaning and presentation, operational logistics and occasional customer support. You will help ensure every vehicle is safe, functional and ready for a premium customer experience.

Key responsibilities

1. Vehicle maintenance and inspections

• Carry out routine vehicle condition checks and preventative maintenance inspections.
• Check engine oil, coolant, AdBlue, tyre pressures and other essential fluids.
• Inspect tyres, lights, wipers, batteries and general vehicle condition.
• Identify and promptly report mechanical or electrical defects; coordinate specialist repairs with approved garages.
• Track servicing, MOTs, maintenance schedules and accurate inspection and defect records.
• Undertake minor repairs and maintenance tasks within your training and competence.

2. Campervan systems and equipment

• Inspect and test pop-top roofs, canvas, seals and operating mechanisms.
• Check auxiliary heating, leisure batteries and electrical hook-up functions.
• Test fresh-water systems, pumps, taps and waste-water drainage.
• Inspect interior furniture, sliding tables, seats and sleeping arrangements.
• Resolve minor equipment issues and report defects before customer collection.

3. Cleaning, preparation and presentation

• Complete detailed interior and exterior cleaning between hires.
• Prepare bedding, kitchen equipment, outdoor furniture and accessories to Harris Campers standards.
• Replenish consumables and identify missing or damaged equipment.
• Carry out thorough pre-hire and post-hire inspections and report damage.
• Support timely, consistent vehicle turnarounds during busy changeover periods.

4. Fleet operations and logistics

• Support daily fleet organisation, vehicle readiness and booking turnaround planning.
• Coordinate vehicle movements between headquarters, garages and other locations.
• Assist with collections and returns, including occasional Edinburgh handovers.
• Support stock control, equipment inventories, supply ordering and tidy storage areas.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised vehicle preparation area and support colleagues during peak demand.

5. Customer experience and support

• Assist with customer handovers and demonstrate vehicle features when required.
• Answer basic campervan equipment questions professionally and clearly.
• Help troubleshoot minor issues during hires, escalating anything requiring specialist attention.
• Represent Harris Campers with a friendly, helpful and customer-focused approach.

What we are looking for

Essential

• Full UK driving licence.
• Practical, hands-on approach and good problem-solving ability.
• Excellent attention to detail, reliability and time management.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Willingness to undertake physical cleaning and vehicle preparation work.
• Professional, positive attitude and flexibility for occasional weekend work during peak season.

Desirable

• Experience in vehicle maintenance, valeting, fleet operations or vehicle rental.
• Knowledge of Volkswagen vehicles, campervans or their onboard systems.
• Basic mechanical or electrical maintenance skills and experience with inspections or minor repairs.
• Experience in automotive, tourism or hospitality environments.

Formal mechanical qualifications are desirable but not essential. We value practical ability, a strong

work ethic and a willingness to learn.

Salary, benefits and development

• Salary: £25,500 per annum for a 35-hour working week.

Working arrangements and probation

The role is full-time and permanent, working 35 hours per week. Working patterns will reflect

operational requirements, including some weekend work during the busy spring and summer seasons,

with appropriate days off arranged in advance. The initial three-month probationary period will assess performance, reliability, attendance and suitability for the role. Private healthcare eligibility begins following successful completion of probation.
