Job Title: Driver Team Leader (D1)

Reports to: Depot Supervisor

Hours: Monday-Friday (04:00 am Start)

Role: Full time, permanent (based on approx. 8 -9 hours per day)

Based: Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire LE65 1DR

Salary: Potential earnings in excess of £33.5k + Bonuses

Holiday: Starting; 28 days

Based at our Ashby depot: LE65 1DR

Your Responsibilities:

As one of our driving team leaders, you will be responsible for a team of 5 to 6 drivers and to ensure that your team continues to deliver the high standard of service that our customers expect and continue to provide a service which is second to none.

Here’s what you’ll be getting up to:

  • Approach all situations in your working day in a courteous and professional manner, acting as an ambassador of Abel & Cole, reflecting our values and principles.
  • Be responsible for the completion of your team’s weekly delivery targets by supporting, advising, and assisting and where necessary.
  • Always demonstrate a professional attitude.
  • Provide mutual support for all other drivers and be prepared to give assistance when required to ensure that all daily deliveries are completed.
  • Adhere to all A & C health and safety policies and practices at all times and make sure that others comply with these policies.
  • The safety of yourself and other road users is paramount and when out on the road remember that you have a duty of care toward yourself as well as others.
  • Assist with the workload at other depots when required.
  • Act as a mentor to the drivers within your team.
  • Promote and encourage Health and safety practices.
  • Encourage and coach all drivers to give great customer service.
  • Provide first-line assistance to your team members.
  • That your personal appearance is clean and tidy.

Promote a professional attitude when meeting customers and ensure that you wear Abel & Cole uniform and other PPE.

  • Act as an ambassador for our B Corp values and make all decisions with our social and environmental impact in mind.
  • Look for opportunities, no matter how small, to use our business as a force for good.

Daily/ Weekly Responsibilities include but not Limited to:

  • Promote exceptional customer service and monitor credits within your team.
  • Cover holidays for all drivers within your team.
  • Make sure that you monitor the customer hazard reporting within your team.
  • Regular updates with your team such as performance reviews.
  • Monitor round sequencing.
  • Carry out ECI Vehicle checks.
  • Ensure that all H&S directives are followed. This includes ensuring all drivers wear the correct uniform and PPE.
  • Encourage and motivate staff to report all near misses as well as improve upon the Health & Safety culture within the depot.
  • You will be required to assist the Depot Supervisor with office & housekeeping duties should you not be required on the road.
  • You may on occasion be required to assist and cover rounds at another depot.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties suitable to the position as required to assist the smooth running of the company.
  • You will ensure that customer deliveries take place in an efficient, accurate and timely manner
  • Your goal will be to exceed customer expectations by giving an exemplary and personalised service
  • That you Drive safely and courteously and in a professional manner at all times
  • Ensure that your vehicle is kept clean, tidy & safe.

Skills, experience, and requirements


  • The ability to start work from 03:00am Mon – Fri (there’s no weekend work!)
  • Full European category “B” driving license.
  • Mature and professional driving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills relating to colleagues, customers and the public.
  • Experience in customer service


  • Experience making multi drop deliveries
  • Basic vehicle maintenance skills at driver level. (Checking tyres, Oil, Water etc)
  • Basic IT skills
