Drone Production Technician - Electronics Fabricator

Join a highly motivated team helping to build, test, and maintain advanced drone systems to the highest standards of safety and reliability.

We're looking for individuals with hand soldering experience - this may have been gained through a hobby, employment or during education.

Working at our Newport manufacturing facility, you'll help turn engineering designs into finished products through fabrication, assembly, wiring and testing.

You'll be part of a small, growing team where collaboration, initiative and ownership are valued. If you're looking for a role where you can learn and develop new skills - this could be a great fit.

Our Company

Aether Aerospace is a rapidly growing drone development and service delivery company operating primarily in the defence and security sectors. We design, build, test and operate advanced drone systems for applications including threat simulation, pilot training, logistics delivery and beyond-visual-line-of-sight operations.

Working under live MoD contracts, we're investing heavily in our people, technology and facilities to rapidly deliver capability where it's needed most.

The Role

As a Drone Production Technician (Electronics Fabricator), you'll work across a range of projects, building production units and supporting workshop activities. You'll be comfortable working from manufacturing drawings and computerised checklists and confident raising potential issues. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Soldering, crimping, and tidying looms
  • Operating and maintaining a PCB pick and place line
  • Fabricating, assembling and wiring drone components to build specifications
  • Conducting basic bench testing, inspections and minor repairs, maintaining accurate records
  • Working closely with our engineers/technicians to meet deadlines

What We Offer

  • Training, development and career progression opportunities within our rapidly growing aerospace company
  • Exposure to cutting-edge drone technology, and defence and security projects
  • Starting salary in the region of £27,500 – £34,000 (effective hourly rate of £14.10 – £17.44) depending on experience
  • 26 days annual leave plus UK bank holidays
  • Employer contributory pension
  • Long-Term Incentive Plan with profit share allocation linked to company performance
  • Access to on-site fitness facilities (gym and climbing wall)
  • Permanent contract with full time hours, working Monday to Friday 9am to 5.30pm. We also welcome applications from candidates who prefer part time hours

About You

We're looking for individuals who can bring the following and are keen to continue learning:

  • Hand soldering experience
  • Experience with small parts assembly
  • Basic electrical/mechanical aptitude; able to read drawings and design information
  • Hands-on maker mentality and great attention to detail
  • Reliability and a strong work ethic
  • Clear communication skills
  • Pragmatic, flexible approach
  • Willing and able to work in UK Defence

Successful applicants must satisfy Baseline Personal Security Standard (BPSS) requirements and be eligible for future Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) clearance.

While not essential, any of the following would be beneficial:

  • PCB assembly and/or experience with pick and place machines
  • Drone/FPV build or hobby experience
  • Experience in aerospace, defence or similarly regulated environment

Inclusive Employer

We are committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued and respected. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and are happy to discuss reasonable adjustments throughout the recruitment process.
