Role Summary

The Integrated Protective Security Command (IPS) is responsible for securing the NCA to protect the public. IPS safeguards the NCA from the full range of security threats that target the Agency, our officers and our assets, to enable the organisation to achieve its operational objectives, both domestically and overseas.

IPS officers provide specialist security services to the Agency 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, to mitigate security risks. People are at the heart of the NCA and IPS play a key role in ensuring the Agency stays at the forefront of combating serious and organised crime.
IPS are responsible for the security of people, processes, technology and standards, operating across the NCA to support operational and non-operational teams, along with the Command team, to ensure the Agency remains resilient and retains public confidence in a volatile and complex threat landscape.

This Business Area is comprised of seven vital capabilities: Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery, International Security, Operational Security, Physical Security, STRAP & Supply Chain Security and Technical Security.

The NCA Operational Security Team works within the NCA Integrated Protective Security command. Our role is to maintain relationships with all NCA areas of business, being operationally focused in providing pragmatic operational security advice and guidance to enable the NCA to conduct its U.K and overseas operations safely and securely.

Our core role being to help protect all NCA staff, its operations/investigations, assets, capabilities and reputation.

We are currently looking to recruit a Physical Security Advisor to join our team and welcome applications from a diverse range of candidates.

The successful candidate must have previous experience acting as a subject matter expert (SME) aligning to National Protective Security Authority (NPSA) standards and guidance.

Role Description

The NCA's Operational Security Team works within the NCA’s Integrated Protective Security Command. Our role is to help protect NCA operations, officers, assets, capability and reputation by providing impartial advice and guidance on security and risk management.

Physical Security Advisors set and review protective security standards across the NCA estate. They provide advice that ranges from shaping bespoke solutions at individual or team level, through to designing new NCA policies and working on large, complex estates programmes.

The mitigation of physical security risks typically requires advice on the deployment of specialist security technology, including storage solutions, CCTV, Automated Access Control Systems (AACS), Intruder Detection Systems (IDS), lighting and perimeters,

Please note; Some travel required to sites throughout the UK (particularly London) with overnight stays as required.

***To be considered, you will need to successfully complete DV clearance before commencing the role, and achieve DV STRAP clearance within the first 12 months in post. Applicants must be willing to undergo DV clearance and STRAP induction and be full UK Nationals or Dual Nationals, of whom one component is British maybe considered on a case by case basis.***

Act as a first point of contact to advise colleagues from across the organisation on physical security management.

Identify and review threats
Identify and review security threats, recommending appropriate mitigation.

Assess Security Incidents
Assess security incidents when they occur, and make recommendations to minimise impact and reduce future risk.

Plan NCA Compliance Visits
Plan and coordinate compliance visits across the NCA.

Draft senior compliance reports
Draft high quality reports, including for a senior audience, on compliance and other security related inspections.

Develop NCA Policies, promote best practice
Create and amend NCA policies; promulgate best practice using a range of communication methods across the organisation.

Promote shared security culture
Promoting a security and risk management culture in which staff understand and demonstrate the ethos that security behaviours are a responsibility shared by everyone, regardless of role.

All salary offers will be made in line with Remuneration Policy.

  • Experience in effective decision making with accountability for decisions made.
A panel will assess how well your application demonstrates the requirements outlined above.

Longlist

In the event of a high number of applications, we may operate a longlist. Applicants will need to meet the minimum pass mark for the lead criteria.

  • Proven experience as a physical security specialist in UK Government, military or law enforcement, demonstrating the practical application of National Protective Security Authority (NPSA) standards and guidance. .

Candidates who do not meet the minimum pass mark for the lead criteria will not progress to having their other criteria assessed. Applications must meet the minimum criteria to be progressed to the assessment stage.

Assessment Outcome
Outcomes will be communicated via the NCA recruitment portal.
If successful but no role is immediately available, you may be placed on a reserve list for 12 months.

In the event of a tie at the assessment stage, available roles will be offered in merit order using the following order:

People working with government assets must complete baseline personnel security standard checks.
Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed is DV Enhanced STRAP. All security clearances will be managed by the NCA.

The requirement for DV Enhanced clearance is to have been present in the UK for at least 7 of the last 10 years.

Occupational Health

Successful candidates will be expected to undertake an occupational health assessment. Depending on the role an in-person medical may be required in either London or Warrington. Unfortunately, travel costs will not be reimbursed.
