About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Corporate Health and Safety Manager to lead and develop health and safety across the University.

Working within the Strategic Assurance Department, you will be responsible for shaping and delivering the University’s Health and Safety Strategy, ensuring the effective implementation of policies, procedures and action plans across faculties and departments.

You will provide expert advice and guidance to colleagues at all levels, promote a positive safety culture, and ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and regulatory requirements.

The role will oversee the University’s audit programme, accident and near-miss reporting processes, performance monitoring, compliance arrangements and training provision. You will work closely with stakeholders across the institution, coordinate the Health and Safety Representative network, and provide reporting and assurance to senior leaders and Governors.

As the University’s lead health and safety specialist, you will act as the key point of contact for the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and drive the continuous improvement of health and safety management across the organisation.

As part of the University’s ongoing commitment to redeployment, please note that this vacancy may be withdrawn at any stage of the recruitment process if a suitable redeployee is identified.

For informal enquiries about this vacancy, please contact Peter Roberts, Director of Assurance, Risk and Legal Services, at robertpe@edgehill.ac.uk.

About You

You will be an experienced health and safety professional with a strong track record of leading health and safety management within a large, complex organisation. You will have the expertise and confidence to provide authoritative advice on health and safety matters, ensuring colleagues understand and meet their responsibilities while promoting a culture of continuous improvement.

A skilled relationship-builder, you will be able to influence and engage a wide range of stakeholders, from frontline teams to senior leaders, developing effective partnerships and driving positive change. You will be comfortable managing competing priorities, using data and insight to inform decision-making, and communicating complex information in a clear and practical way.

You will bring experience of developing strategy, implementing action plans, managing audits and investigations, monitoring performance, and embedding compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements. Strong analytical, organisational and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to deliver training, lead projects and provide assurance at a senior level.

Most importantly, you will be passionate about creating safe environments, committed to high standards of governance and compliance, and motivated by the opportunity to make a meaningful impact across the University community.

At Edge Hill University we value the benefits a rich and diverse workforce brings to our community and therefore welcome applications from all sections of society.
