Full job description

About the company

Players Publishing provides high-quality industry analysis of the gambling sector across both print and digital media.

We are a successful media company that has operated for two decades on a range of publications within gambling.

We are looking for a full-time Staff Writer to join our professional, industry-leading editorial team, working on our flagship Global Gaming Insider website and monthly print magazine.

About the role

Your duties would include, but not be limited to:

  • Sourcing and writing daily news stories for the website. Breaking news before the competition and identifying a must-not-miss item.
  • Keeping in touch with and interviewing the biggest CEOs in the sector, developing a rapport with both new and existing contributors.
  • Writing features and other editorial content for our monthly magazine, which is sent to C-Level executives across the world.
  • Developing exclusive stories and your own industry contact book.
  • Researching for and helping support the Global Gaming Awards.
  • Potentially conducting video interviews on location and for our Huddle podcast.

What we can offer

  • A bustling journalism environment. You will be supported, guided and learn from the very best in our Editor, who has been with the company for over 7 years. Additional expert guidance comes from our Marketing Director and Commercial Director, who work in conjunction with the Editorial team.
  • Being part of a team with writers from all over the world, from Asia to Latin America.
  • Being part of a thriving sector, full of genuine talking points. It is the perfect setting for writers to flourish – and to make your voice heard.
  • The opportunity to travel to industry trade shows for the right candidate; yearly events are held in cities like Barcelona, Lisbon, Rome, Las Vegas, right here in London and more.

Essential requirements

The successful applicant will:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in full-time journalism.
  • Be a proper journalist. Not someone who rewrites press releases, looks for the ‘easy’ solution or has to be told a big story is worth pursuing.
  • Possess excellent interviewing skills and the ability to write features/analysis pieces.
  • Possess a strong news sense and the ability to write concisely.
  • Know business writing and the difference between B2B and B2C, with a clear distinction between journalistic reporting and copywriting.
  • The journalistic desire to get to a story first, break exclusive news and put your own slant/opinion on hot topics.
  • Knowing your ‘yours’ from your ‘you’res’ – with very strong attention to detail.

Desirable experience

  • Previous knowledge of or time spent within the gambling industry.
  • Proofreading and sub-editing experience.
  • Understanding of data and financial reporting.
