About Us

Houghton Group is a well-established, family-run building, electrical and retrofit contractor based in Chelmsford, Essex. We deliver a wide range of works across social housing, residential, commercial and educational sectors, with a strong focus on quality, compliance and long-term client relationships.

Due to continued growth we are seeking a qualified Electrician to join our directly employed team.

The Role

This is a varied and hands-on role, working across a range of contracts throughout Essex and surrounding areas. The position will involve both planned and responsive works, primarily within the social housing sector, alongside project-based installations.

The role will also include DMC works, including the installation and replacement of extractor fans and ventilation systems within domestic properties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out first and second fix electrical installations.
  • Complete inspection, testing and certification in line with current regulations.
  • Undertake EICRs and associated remedial works.
  • Deliver works including rewires, kitchen and bathroom upgrades, and general repairs.
  • Undertake DMC works, including the installation, replacement and electrical connection of extractor fans and domestic ventilation systems.
  • Support the delivery of retrofit and energy-efficiency measures.
  • Maintain accurate records using digital job management and certification systems.
  • Work safely and professionally within both void and occupied properties.
  • Liaise effectively with supervisors, managers and residents.

Skills & Experience

  • Fully qualified Electrician (Level 3, AM2, ECS Gold Card).
  • Inspection and Testing qualification (2391 or equivalent) desirable.
  • Proven experience completing EICRs and fault finding.
  • Experience within social housing or Schedule of Rates (SOR) environments advantageous.
  • Experience with domestic ventilation and extractor fan installations would be beneficial.
  • Strong understanding of current regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Competent in the use of IT systems and mobile working platforms.
  • Full UK driving licence.
