Electrician – Domestic & Commercial

Dec-Elec Ltd | Aberdare, South Wales
Full-time, permanent | £19–£21 per hour
Company van, fuel card, overtime and funded training

Most electrical firms will tell you they’re growing.

We’ll tell you what that actually means for you: steady, long-term work on contracts that are already secured, a company van on your drive, your training paid for and a genuine route into solar PV, battery storage and EV charging.

If you’re a good electrician who’s tired of stop-start work, chasing materials, regularly working away or being treated like a number, this could be the right move for you.

About Dec-Elec

We’re an established South Wales electrical contractor based in Aberdare, with a team of around 22 people working across domestic and commercial contracts.

We’ve grown by building a reputation for turning up, doing the job properly and getting asked back. That reputation keeps our diary full, and it’s why we’re particular about the people we bring into the team.

What it’s like to work here

The work is already secured

We hold long-term contracts with local authorities and commercial clients. You’ll have steady work planned in advance rather than waiting to find out where the next job is coming from.

You’ll work across South Wales

Our contracts are managed from our Aberdare unit, with no regular working away or spending your week living out of hotels.

You’ll be paid properly and on time

No excuses and no wondering when your wages are going to land. You’ll be paid correctly and on time, every time.

The office supports you

Scheduling, materials, RAMS, client communication and job administration are managed by our office team. Your job is to focus on being a good electrician.

We invest in training

If there’s a qualification that will develop you and benefit the business, we’ll support you in getting it. This can include:

  • Inspection and testing
  • Solar PV
  • Battery storage
  • EV charging
  • Further technical and supervisory development

You’re a name, not a number

We’re large enough to provide security and progression but still small enough for everyone to know one another. If you raise a problem or suggest a better way of doing something, you’ll be listened to.

You’ll also get your birthday off, paid, in addition to your normal holiday entitlement. Nobody should be pulling cables through a loft on their birthday.

There’s a genuine route to progress

Whether you want to move into inspection and testing, supervision, estimating or renewable technologies, we’ll help you build a route towards it.

Tell us where you want to be in five years, and if you’re willing to put the work in, we’ll help you get there.

Who we’re looking for

You don’t need to be a superhero. You need to be the sort of electrician other electricians respect.

You must have:

  • NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation or an equivalent qualification
  • Current 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification
  • A full UK driving licence
  • The ability to work safely and independently
  • Good communication skills
  • Pride in the standard and finish of your work
  • The ability to complete certificates, job sheets and supporting photographs properly and on time
  • A respectful approach when working in occupied homes and on client sites

You should be someone we can trust to attend a job, communicate properly, complete the work to a high standard and leave the property clean and tidy.

Above all, we want someone reliable. Turn up, do good work and be honest with us, and we’ll look after you properly.

Desirable but not essential

It would be useful if you have:

  • Inspection and testing qualifications such as 2391 or an equivalent
  • Experience completing EICRs and remedial works
  • Commercial installation experience
  • Experience with solar PV, battery storage or EV chargers

If you haven’t got these qualifications or experience yet, that won’t automatically rule you out. We can provide training to the right person.

The work

The role includes a varied mix of domestic and commercial electrical work, including:

  • EICRs and remedial works
  • Consumer-unit replacements
  • Domestic rewires
  • Fault-finding
  • Commercial installations
  • First-fix and second-fix works
  • Testing, certification and job documentation
  • Solar PV, battery storage and EV charging once suitably trained

Your work will be scheduled through our job-management system, with the information available on your phone. Materials will be ordered and prepared in advance wherever possible, reducing wasted time at wholesalers and unnecessary delays on site.

Some days you’ll work independently, while other projects will involve working with the wider team and our apprentices.

Pay and benefits

Pay: £19–£21 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications

Based on 37.5 hours per week, this is equivalent to approximately £37,050–£40,950 per year, before overtime.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Working day: On site for 8:00am and finished at 4:00pm, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break

Overtime: Available and paid at time and a half. Overtime is offered, not forced.

Company van: A company van assigned to you and taken home each night

Fuel: Company fuel card provided

Holiday: 20 days’ annual leave, all bank holidays and your birthday off with pay

Pension: Workplace pension scheme

Training: Funded qualifications and ongoing development

Equipment: Calibrated test equipment, PPE and specialist power tools provided

Location: Based from our Aberdare unit, working primarily across South Wales

How to apply

Apply through Indeed with your CV.

If your CV is out of date, don’t let that stop you. Send us your name, qualifications and a short summary of the work you’ve been doing, and we’ll take it from there.

If you’d like to ask a question before applying, call or WhatsApp Katie on 07562 947035. A quick, no-obligation conversation is absolutely fine—we’d rather you understood the role before applying.

What happens next

  • We’ll review your application and contact suitable candidates for a short telephone conversation.
  • We’ll discuss your experience, qualifications and what you’re looking for from your next role.
  • You’ll be invited to our Aberdare office to meet us and learn more about the company.
  • If we’re the right fit for each other, we’ll agree an offer and a start date around your notice period.

We’re hiring now and want to bring the right person into the team as soon as possible.
