Location: Cambridge (residential & commercial work across Cambridgeshire and the surrounding region)
Job type: Full-time, permanent — self-employed persons also considered
Salary: £40,000–£50,000 per year, depending on experience, plus overtime
Huttie Group
For over 15 years, Huttie Group has been a leading Cambridge-based mechanical and electrical contractor. We've built our reputation on high-quality workmanship and great customer service — with a friendly and positive work environment. Expect a vibrant, well-organised, structured workload, a friendly and diverse group of colleagues, and a supportive, experienced team.
The role
You'll join our Electrical department carrying out installations, testing, remedials and fault-finding across residential and commercial properties. Work includes domestic and commercial electrical works, testing & inspection (EICRs and landlord certificates), remedial works, consumer unit upgrades, lighting and power, controls and EV charge point installations. You'll be part of a dedicated team with its own manager and co-ordinator whose job is to keep your diary full, your jobs organised and your materials ready — so you can focus on doing good work. Jobs, photos, forms and certificates are all managed through the our job management software
Key responsibilities
- Domestic and commercial electrical installations — lighting, power, consumer unit upgrades, rewires & heating controls
- Testing & inspection: EICRs, landlord electrical certificates and remedial works
- Fault-finding and diagnostics
- EV charge point installations
- Working alongside our other trades on multi-trade jobs — heating, renewables and HVAC
- Delivering friendly, professional customer service on every job — keeping the customer informed is part of the work, not an extra
- Completing accurate records and certification in Commusoft: photos, forms, certificates and job notes
Qualifications and experience
- NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation (or equivalent, e.g. City & Guilds 2365/2357, or time-served with AM2)
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) — essential
- City & Guilds 2391 (or equivalent) inspection & testing qualification highly desirable
- ECS/JIB card
- EV charge point installation qualification (e.g. City & Guilds 2921) a bonus — training can be provided
- Full UK driving licence (essential)
- Proven experience in domestic and/or commercial installation and testing work
- Good communication skills and a high standard of customer service
Please note: if you are a confident, experienced electrician without your testing & inspection qualification, we are open to providing the training and support to develop the right candidate.
What you'll get
- £40,000–£50,000 per year, depending on experience
- 28 days' holiday per year
- Overtime available, plus an optional on-call rota for those who want it
- Company van & fuel card
- Pension
- Continual professional development and training for suitable candidates
