Full job description

Qualified Electricians – Installation, Small Works & Testing

AJ Taylor Electrical Contractors Ltd

We are looking to recruit a number of qualified electricians to join our electrical team.

AJ Taylor Electrical Contractors is an established electrical contractor, trading since 1983. We work across a wide range of commercial, public-sector and private customers throughout Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire.

We currently have opportunities for electricians across two areas of our business. We aren't looking for one particular type of electrician – we're interested in speaking to good, qualified electricians and finding the role that best suits their skills and experience.

Small Works & Testing Electrician

This is a varied role for someone who enjoys fault finding, testing and carrying out a wide range of electrical work.

Jobs can range from a single call-out or minor repair through to small projects lasting several weeks.

Typical work includes:

  • Reactive electrical call-outs and fault finding
  • Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs)
  • Testing, inspection and certification
  • EICR remedial works
  • Electrical repairs and alterations
  • Consumer unit and distribution board works
  • Lighting and power alterations
  • Small installations and projects
  • Working independently and, where required, alongside apprentices or other electricians
  • Communicating directly with customers and explaining findings
  • Identifying additional works and reporting these back to the office

The majority of our Small Works work is local within Sussex.

For this position, applicants must hold a recognised 2391 Inspection & Testing qualification or equivalent and be competent in carrying out EICRs independently.

Installation Electrician

Our Installation Electricians deliver planned electrical installation works across Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire.

The work is varied. Some projects may last only a few days, while larger projects may involve teams of electricians working on site over a longer period.

Typical work includes:

  • Commercial electrical installations
  • Containment systems
  • Lighting and power installations
  • Distribution equipment
  • Refurbishment and alteration works
  • Working from drawings, specifications and project information
  • Testing your own work
  • Working independently on smaller projects
  • Working as part of a larger electrical team when required
  • Maintaining high standards of workmanship and site safety

We're looking for electricians who can be trusted to understand the work they have been given and get on with delivering it properly.

Who we're looking for

For both positions, you will need to be a qualified electrician with the appropriate electrical qualifications and a good understanding of BS 7671.

We're interested in ability and attitude rather than simply how many years you've been qualified.

We're therefore equally happy to hear from experienced electricians and strong newly qualified electricians who have the right technical ability and approach to their work.

You should be:

  • Capable of working independently
  • Reliable and organised
  • Able to problem-solve and use your own initiative
  • Proud of the standard of your work
  • Comfortable dealing with customers and other trades
  • Able to communicate problems or changes clearly
  • Conscious of health and safety and your responsibilities on site
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
  • Hold a full UK driving licence

Working at AJ Taylor

AJ Taylor has been established since 1983, and we're proud to have built a business where people can develop and build a long-term career.

We offer:

  • Site working hours of 7:30am – 4:30pm
  • Company van provided
  • Paid travel time in accordance with our company travel arrangements
  • Overtime opportunities
  • Workplace pension
  • Statutory holiday entitlement
  • Salary based on experience, qualifications and capability
  • Training and opportunities for further development
  • Opportunities to progress into supervisory and management roles for those who want to develop their career
  • A broad variety of electrical work and customers
  • Several company social events throughout the year for employees

We're looking for people who want to become part of the team and take pride in the work they deliver.

If you're interested, apply with your CV and tell us a little about the type of electrical work you currently do and whether you're more interested in Small Works & Testing, Installation work, or would be happy to consider either.
