About MotorEasy

MotorEasy is one of the UK’s leading automotive technology and insurance businesses, helping hundreds of thousands of drivers manage the cost of vehicle ownership. As the business continues to grow, we are investing in our finance function and are looking for an ambitious Assistant Accountant to join our team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate with around 1–2 years’ experience in a finance or accounting role who wants to build a long-term career in finance. You will gain broad, hands-on experience while being supported by experienced finance professionals.

We are looking for a bright and ambitious team-player, who is quick to learn and keen to grow your finance knowledge.

The Role

As an Assistant Accountant, you will support the day-to-day running of the finance function while gaining exposure to management accounts, financial reporting, underwriting reporting and operational finance.

Working closely with the finance team, Financial Controller and CFO, you will develop both your technical accounting knowledge and commercial understanding in a fast-paced, growing business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process supplier invoices and maintain accurate purchase ledger records.
  • Reconcile supplier statements and resolve invoice and payment queries.
  • Manage the finance inbox and respond to supplier and internal queries.
  • Assist with preparing supplier payment runs and support cash management.
  • Assist with bank reconciliations and the allocation of receipts and payments.
  • Produce regular finance, operational and underwriting reports.
  • Assist with compiling financial and underwriting data and investigate discrepancies.
  • Support the preparation of monthly management accounts.
  • Prepare journals, accruals and prepayments.
  • Complete balance sheet reconciliations and support the month-end close.
  • Investigate variances and assist with financial analysis and reporting.
  • You will be given ownership of a number of key finance tasks to be completed on a monthly basis and working closely with senior members of the finance team.
  • Help improve finance processes through automation and continuous improvement.
  • Provide support across the finance function during periods of annual leave.
  • Carry out ad hoc duties as required by the Financial Controller and CFO.

About You

We are more interested in your potential, attitude and ambition than extensive experience. You will likely have graduated within the last few years and gained around 1–2 years’ experience in a finance or accounting role.

Your degree may be in:

  • Accounting, Business or Finance related
  • Economics
  • Mathematics
  • Business Management
  • Another relevant or numerate discipline

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Approximately 1–2 years’ experience within a finance or accounting role.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good Excel skills, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP, SUMIFS or equivalent functions.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Clear communication skills with colleagues, suppliers and other stakeholders.
  • A proactive approach, willingness to learn and confidence to ask questions.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing positively to the wider team.
  • A genuine interest in developing a long-term career in finance and accounting.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Experience of accounts payable, accounts receivable or supplier reconciliations.
  • Exposure to month-end processes, journals, accruals and prepayments.
  • Experience using Sage 50 or another accounting system.
  • Studying towards, or intending to study, ACCA, CIMA or ACA.
  • Experience within insurance or financial services, although this is not essential.
  • An interest in process improvement, finance automation and using technology to work more efficiently.

Personal Qualities

  • Takes pride in producing accurate, high-quality work.
  • Enjoys solving problems and investigating discrepancies.
  • Can prioritise effectively and adapt to changing deadlines.
  • Learns quickly and is keen to develop new skills.
  • Is organised, reliable and accountable.
  • Has a positive attitude and enjoys collaborating with others.

What You’ll Get

  • Study support towards ACCA, CIMA or ACA.
  • Structured mentoring and career development from experienced finance professionals.
  • Hands-on involvement with management accounts, financial reporting and operational finance.
  • Experience working across UK and Irish entities within a growing business.
  • Opportunity to influence finance processes through automation and continuous improvement.
  • Clear progression opportunities within the finance team.
  • A supportive and collaborative working environment.
  • Hybrid working, with one day per week from home following a successful probation.
  • Competitive salary of £28,000–£34,000, dependent on experience.

Pay: £28,000.00-£34,000.00 per year
