Full job description

Location: Hybrid – East Kilbride / Home Working
Salary: £25,000–£30,000, depending on experience

Join one of the leading professional hair, barbering and beauty media groups

EVO Media Group is the publisher of BarberEVO and SalonEVO - internationally recognised media brands serving the professional barbering, hair and beauty industries across North America, the UK and beyond.

Through premium print magazines, websites, social media, video content and live events, we connect professionals with the people, brands, trends and ideas shaping the future of the industry.

We are looking for an ambitious Editorial, Features & Digital Content Writer who can tell great stories, build strong industry relationships and produce high-quality editorial content across print, digital and social platforms.

This is a fast-paced, high-output editorial role. It is not suited to someone who wants to spend days perfecting one article or waiting for work to be handed to them.

You will be expected to write quickly and accurately, chase leads, secure interviews, pick up the phone, manage multiple deadlines and turn content around across print, digital, social and commercial platforms.

The right person will be comfortable producing a steady volume of content without letting quality, accuracy or tone slip.

You will interview artists, educators, brand leaders, business owners and industry voices across the UK, North America and international markets, while helping produce content for magazines, websites, newsletters, social channels, live events and commercial partners.

If you are naturally curious, confident speaking to people, full of ideas and comfortable working at pace, this could be a brilliant opportunity.

The Role

You will create engaging editorial content across our print magazines, websites, newsletters, social platforms and wider media channels.

From interviewing award-winning artists and global educators to covering trade shows, launches, brand stories and industry news, no two days are the same.

This role requires pace, organisation and initiative. You may be working on print features, website stories, interview transcripts, advertorial copy, social captions and event coverage within the same week, so the ability to prioritise and keep moving is essential.

Working alongside our Director of Content Strategy and wider editorial team, you will produce high-quality written content at pace while maintaining the editorial standards our brands are known for.

As our North American audience continues to grow, flexibility around working hours will be required to support interviews, events and editorial deadlines across different time zones. This is not suited to someone looking for a rigid 9–5 role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research, pitch and write original feature articles, interviews and editorial content for print and digital platforms.
  • Produce engaging editorial for magazines, websites, newsletters and social media.
  • Generate original story ideas, interview opportunities and fresh editorial angles.
  • Proactively chase leads, contacts, interviews and story opportunities rather than waiting for assignments to be handed over.
  • Build relationships with artists, educators, brands, salon owners, barbers and industry leaders across the UK, North America and international markets.
  • Arrange, conduct and transcribe interviews via phone, video call and in person.
  • Confidently communicate with contributors, PR agencies, clients and commercial partners.
  • Adapt long-form editorial into digital stories, newsletters, captions, pull quotes and social-first content.
  • Write advertorial and partner-led content while maintaining editorial standards and tone of voice.
  • Fact-check names, titles, quotes, brand details and technical claims before publication.
  • Monitor industry trends, emerging news, audience interests and competitor activity.
  • Support editorial coverage around product launches, business developments and major industry events.
  • Represent EVO Media Group at trade shows, exhibitions and industry events, conducting interviews and producing live editorial content where required.
  • Collaborate with designers, photographers, videographers and the commercial team to deliver engaging multi-platform content.

What Success Looks Like

Within your first six months, you will:

  • Build strong relationships with key brands, contributors and industry professionals.
  • Become confident conducting interviews independently.
  • Produce a consistent flow of high-quality editorial across print and digital.
  • Contribute ideas that shape future magazine editions and online coverage.
  • Support the growth of our digital editorial output.
  • Represent EVO Media Group professionally at industry events and exhibitions.

Skills & Experience

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Previous experience in journalism, editorial, feature writing or content creation.
  • Excellent written English with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong interviewing and storytelling skills.
  • The ability to write quickly without compromising quality.
  • Comfortable producing a high volume of written content across multiple formats and deadlines.
  • Confidence speaking to people on the phone and chasing interviews or information.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple live deadlines at once without needing constant chasing or hand-holding.
  • A creative mindset and the ability to identify strong editorial opportunities.
  • Experience writing for both print and digital platforms.
  • An understanding of social media, digital publishing and audience engagement.
  • The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team.

Desirable

  • Experience within the professional hair, barbering or beauty industries.
  • Experience covering live events, exhibitions or trade shows.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, CMS platforms or basic video editing.
  • Experience creating multimedia or social-first content.
  • Existing industry contacts.
  • A genuine interest in professional beauty, barbering, hair, grooming or lifestyle journalism.

Personal Attributes

You will be someone who is:

  • Naturally curious and always looking for the next great story.
  • Proactive and willing to chase opportunities rather than wait for them.
  • Fast, organised and calm under deadline pressure.
  • Creative, adaptable and full of ideas.
  • A confident communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Reliable, self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Comfortable in a high-output, fast-paced media environment.
  • Passionate about producing outstanding editorial.

Location & Working Pattern

This is a hybrid position, combining office-based working in East Kilbride with home working.

Candidates should be able to attend the office several times each week as required.

Due to the international nature of the role, including our growing North American audience and contributor base, flexibility around working hours is essential.

This role requires genuine flexibility. Later working will be part of the role when North American interviews, events, deadlines or breaking opportunities require it.

What We Offer

  • £25,000–£30,000 salary, depending on experience.
  • 30 days annual leave, inclusive of public/bank holidays.
  • Hybrid working.
  • The opportunity to work across internationally recognised media brands.
  • Editorial bylines across premium print magazines, websites and digital platforms.
  • The opportunity to interview leading names in the professional hair, barbering and beauty industries.
  • Opportunities to travel to major UK and North American trade shows, exhibitions and industry events.
  • A varied role spanning print, digital, social media, video and live events.
  • Ongoing professional development and opportunities for progression.
  • A creative, collaborative and ambitious team environment where your ideas are encouraged and your work has real impact.
