Full job description

Join the Layered Reality team as a Technical Manager at The War of The Worlds: The Immersive Experience (www.thewaroftheworldsimmersive.com), where innovation meets entertainment. Layered Reality™ is a pioneer in immersive entertainment, blending captivating storytelling, cutting-edge technology, and exceptional customer service. Our unique approach combines live theatre, digital technology (virtual reality, projection mapping, and holograms), and physical sensations (sight, sound, smell, touch, and movement) to craft unforgettable immersive experiences.

Position Summary

As manager of the Technical department, you will play an important role in ensuring the seamless, safe, and efficient day-to-day operation of our immersive experience. On a daily basis, the Technical Manager will lead planned and reactive maintenance throughout the experience and ensure the day-to-day operation is running safely, smoothly and efficiently. In this dynamic role, you will embrace a variety of responsibilities. During live show periods, the Technical department operates the master show control system, encompassing traditional technologies such as lighting, sound, and AV, as well as immersive-specific components. Beyond technical expertise, you'll also be in charge of information flow, facilitating communication between the cast and crew. Excellent communication skills are key. Your enthusiasm, precision, and eye for detail will leave a lasting impact in our unique immersive setting, where entertainment meets cutting-edge technology.

Scope & Responsibilities

Managing the technical operations, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the department. Your responsibilities will include team coordination, completing reports on a daily and weekly basis, devising and delivering training initiatives, scheduling and executing maintenance tasks, and leading regular team meetings to ensure alignment and progress. Moreover, you will be entrusted with ensuring the safe operation of all show elements, encompassing lighting, sound, video projection, and venue automation, while upholding the safety of both staff and guests. Your duties will extend to troubleshooting any technical challenges that may arise, often under pressure during live show operations, requiring both independent action and rapid decision-making. Your ability to articulate ideas effectively, both orally and through written documentation, will be important in this role.

Background Experience

We want fun, dynamic, and friendly personalities to join our team. You will be highly self-motivated with a can-do attitude whilst ensuring all our guests are wowed the moment they step inside our doors by providing the highest standards of production. You will be able to demonstrate advanced knowledge in the use of technical disciplines including Audio, Video, Lighting, timecode, Dante, and QLab operation. We offer in-house training across all our systems. Technical theatre education is desirable and previous experience working in theatre, events, or visitor attractions is preferable, but not essential. What we value most is your passion and potential.

Desired Attributes

A minimum of 3 years experience in a supervisory/management position.

Skills and knowledge to manage technical operations.

A positive attitude and a dedication to maintaining high production values.

Excellent verbal communication skills.

Experience working with Virtual Reality.

A good attention to detail and the ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Exceptional communication and leadership skills.

The ability to remain calm and composed under pressure.
