Based in Leeds, Sulzer's PPR (Pumps, Parts and Retrofit) division excels in precision machining, repairs, and tailored solutions for essential equipment, focused on enhancing performance, extending lifespan, and delivering cost-effective outcomes.


This newly established role as a Costings Engineer in our PPR division is crucial to complementing our ongoing success. You will play a pivotal role in accurately estimating project costs during tender stages, driving profitability whilst meeting customer specifications and Sulzer's strategic objectives. Your main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Providing detailed cost estimates incorporating factors such as pump selection, material types, labour hours, and quality requirements.
  • Collaborating closely with teams in Tendering, Advance Engineering, Production, Planning, and Procurement to align cost estimates with customer requirements.
  • Analysing and calculating labour requirements to optimise workforce allocation and project cost efficiency.
  • Using historical data and quotations to accurately calculate material costs crucial for project execution.
  • Offering expert advice to departments, assisting in managing cost variances and enhancing project efficiency.
  • Assisting in the development and maintenance of costing systems to ensure accuracy and efficiency.

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A formal qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is preferred but not essential.
  • Experience in producing cost estimates within engineering, ideally in machining or fabrication; candidates with a solid grounding in mechanical engineering principles, seeking a new career direction, will also be considered.
  • Strong communication and time management skills are essential.
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills are crucial.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in SAP is advantageous.
  • A desire for career progression and willingness to learn new systems is important.
