Wolf Puppeteer – Join the Jungle!

Webbs is an award-winning, family-run garden centre retailer with four stores, a growing e-commerce business, premium restaurants, and a passionate team committed to creating memorable guest experiences.

This year, our much-loved Enchanted Gardens event is heading deep into the jungle, and we’re looking for a talented and physically confident Wolf Body Puppeteer to bring one of our magical jungle creatures to life along our immersive outdoor trail.

Wolf Body Puppeteer

This is a physical performance role, using a body puppet to create a believable, engaging, and memorable wolf character.

We’re looking for a performer with puppetry skills, excellent physical awareness, and the ability to communicate character and story through movement.

The performer will need to create a strong connection with audiences using both spoken words body language, and movement to bring the character to life.

As a Wolf Puppeteer, you’ll be based outdoors along our enchanting trail, interacting with visitors and helping create an immersive experience they’ll remember.

You’ll be expected to:

• Operate and perform a full-body wolf puppet with confidence and control.
• Create believable animal movement, behaviour, and physicality.
• Stay fully in character throughout each performance.
• Use movement, posture, and physical storytelling to communicate with audiences.
• Engage naturally with children, families, and visitors of all ages.
• Improvise physically and respond to unexpected audience interactions.
• Create playful, funny, surprising, and memorable moments.
• Maintain a high level of energy and character throughout each shift.
• Follow direction and choreography while also bringing your own performance instincts to the character.

Every family and interaction is different, so we’re looking for an experienced performer who can combine strong puppetry technique with excellent physical acting and audience awareness.

Previous acting, puppetry, dance, physical theatre, circus, street theatre, immersive entertainment, or character performance experience is essential. Experience operating full-body, creature, animal, or large-scale puppets is highly desirable.

You’ll need to be:

• A confident and expressive physical performer.
• Highly comfortable working inside and operating a full-body puppet.
• Skilled at communicating character without relying on speech.
• Strong in physical improvisation and movement.
• Naturally playful, curious, and engaging.
• Comfortable performing for children and families.
• Able to maintain consistent characterisation throughout a performance.
• Physically fit, with good stamina, coordination, spatial awareness, and body control.
• A strong team player who can take direction and work collaboratively.
• Passionate about creating magical, immersive experiences for audiences.

You’ll also need to be prepared for outdoor winter work, including wearing a warm, physically demanding costume and operating a puppet while standing, walking, crouching, moving, and interacting with visitors for extended periods.

The role may involve working in low light and uneven outdoor environments, so strong spatial awareness and confidence moving safely while inside the puppet are essential.

Shifts are mainly evenings, weekdays and weekends, usually starting from 4pm and lasting 4–6 hours. Some shifts may finish as late as 10pm, so please consider travel arrangements before applying.

This is a fixed term role beginning 2nd October 2026 ending 4th January 2027. The event runs throughout the festive season, so evening and weekend availability is important

The selection process may include candidates asked to demonstrate physical performance, puppetry technique, improvisation, characterisation, movement, and audience interaction skills.
