Full job description

We are looking for a creative forward thinking individual who can create a programme of activities to suit all tastes for the lovely people living at Bay Tree House Care Home. Someone who can make a difference.

Job Title: Activities Co-Ordinator

Department: Care & Support Workforce

Job Grade (if applicable):

Revision Date for Description: Annually or when required

Main Objectives of Role: To be creative in planning and facilitating an appropriate plan of activities for people living in the home so that they can be involved, interact and be stimulated.

Key Tasks

  • Writing an activity plan for the home catering for people’s individual interests, abilities and skills
  • Facilitating the plan but ensuring it is flexible and meaningful
  • Engaging with people to ask them what they would like to take part in
  • To plan ahead for seasonal activities
  • Record activities in a log to evidence the activity that has been done and who has taken part
  • Ensuring that people are encouraged to get involved – one to one activity’s are to also be included
  • Engaging with people to find out more about them; their likes/dislikes and interests
  • To arrange regular entertainment following consultation with the people; what they would like and vary the different genres
  • To liaise with the manager around purchasing activity items
  • To manage he activity cupboard/storage so that it is clean and tidy
  • Attending any supervisions and appraisals as arranged by the manager/deputy manager
  • Reporting any serious accidents or incidents swiftly to the deputy manager/manager and completing the necessary paperwork and managing such less serious events day to day using own initiative
  • Dealing with and reporting any safeguarding concerns to the deputy manager/manager

Responsible for:

  • Working in line with the five main principles of the Social Care and Wellbeing (Wales) Act 2014; embedding this in the service provision by leading by example
  • Optimising independence and voice and control of people living in the home
  • Working in a preventative and interventive way to ensure people remain safe and healthy
  • Helping people to optimise their wellbeing; their self-worth and independence and doing things with a person and not for them – recognising their skills and abilities
  • Working with a person and their families/representatives in co-production; involving them in their day to day care, support and activities, to make decisions and choices for themselves
  • Working with multi-agencies; the person’s families/representatives and a team of health professionals involved in supporting a person to achieve their outcomes
  • Attending induction and ongoing training as required by the manager/deputy manager and Orchard Care Group
  • Applying the Code of Professional Practice in your work at all times; in and out of the work place
  • Working as a part of a team and respecting colleagues you work with
  • Being accountable for the work you do
  • Being responsible and reliable in relation to your attendance and contract of employment
  • Being responsible for your timesheet
  • Being responsible for your own health and safety at work and the safety of others
  • Promoting and upholding the reputation of the home
  • Carrying out of any tasks and duties relating to your role as requested by your Manager and or Deputy Manager to meet the ongoing needs of the organisation

Person specification

Essential

· Be of good character with honesty and integrity (interview and references)

· Be caring and empathetic (interview)

· Has to be reliable and responsible (interview and references)

· Be able to understand the importance of their role or why they wish to work in a care setting (interview)

· Be creative in the planning of activities and possess an understanding of the need for variety

· Have good communication skills and be able to encourage people to take part and get involved wherever possible

· Be able to provide good references from previous employment or character references

· Be able to work as part of a team (interview and references)

· Be able to read and write; phonetically would be acceptable as we can support with dyslexia

Desirable

· Previous experience/knowledge of being an activity co-ordinator
