About GVG
GVG is a specialist asset management and maintenance consultancy that helps asset-intensive organisations manage risk, improve performance and ensure compliance. We work across critical infrastructure and industrial sectors, supporting clients to understand, manage and optimise their physical assets throughout their lifecycle.
The opportunity
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Summer Project Assistant to support the delivery of an asset data collection and verification project within the water industry.
This is an excellent opportunity for an undergraduate or recent graduate to gain hands-on experience working within the UK water sector, learn how water treatment and distribution assets are managed, and develop practical knowledge of asset management principles.
You will work alongside experienced consultants and client teams, visiting operational sites across Bristol, Somerset and Wiltshire to collect, verify and record asset information that supports the effective management of critical infrastructure.
Key responsibilities
- Visit water treatment works, pumping stations and other operational sites across the region.
- Collect, verify and record asset information using digital tools and data collection systems.
- Compare physical assets against existing records and identify discrepancies.
- Support the validation and improvement of asset registers and asset data quality.
- Capture photographs and supporting information where required.
- Assist in organising and maintaining project documentation.
- Work closely with project managers, consultants and client representatives.
- Follow all site safety requirements and procedures.
- Contribute to project progress reporting and data quality reviews.
What you will learn
This role provides a unique opportunity to gain exposure to:
- The UK water industry.
- Water treatment and distribution processes.
- Physical asset management principles and practices.
- Infrastructure asset data collection and verification techniques.
- Asset registers, asset hierarchies and asset information systems.
- Project delivery within a professional consultancy environment.
- Working with operational and engineering teams across multiple sites.
About you
We are looking for someone who is:
- Currently studying towards, or recently graduated from, a degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Geography, Asset Management, Project Management, Data Analytics or a related discipline.
- Organised, reliable and detail-oriented.
- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
- Confident communicating with a range of stakeholders.
- Willing to travel regularly between client sites.
- Interested in infrastructure, utilities, engineering or asset management.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Essential requirements
- Full UK driving licence.
- Access to a vehicle or willingness to travel throughout the region.
- Ability to work on operational sites and occasionally outdoors.
- Right to work in the UK.
Why join GVG?
This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain practical industry experience, develop valuable technical and professional skills, and work alongside experienced asset management professionals supporting one of the UK's most important infrastructure sectors.
Successful candidates will gain first-hand exposure to asset management, project delivery and critical infrastructure operations, providing a strong foundation for a future career in engineering, utilities, infrastructure, consulting or project management.
Whilst this is a temporary summer position, we are a growing consultancy and will be looking to expand our team over time. For the right candidate, there may be opportunities to continue working with GVG beyond the summer or following graduation.
