Engagement Officer (Natural Health Service)
Located in Helmsley or Danby Lodge National Park Centre

The North York Moors National Park Authority helps to care for one of the UK’s most distinctive protected landscapes. Spanning 554 square miles, the National Park is home to expansive heather moorland, woodland, remote dales, historic villages and dramatic coastline, and plays an important role in supporting nature, communities and sustainable access for visitors.

We are now looking for an Engagement Officer to join us on a part-time, permanent basis, working 22.5 hours per week across three days.

The Benefits

- Salary of £17,120 - £18,860 per annum
- 25 days’ annual leave, rising annually by one day to 30 days after five years’ service, plus public holidays
- Local Government Pension Scheme

This is a rewarding opportunity for an individual with experience of developing and delivering nature-based activities that promote health and wellbeing to join our dedicated organisation.

You’ll have the chance to bring together your passion for nature and supporting others, using the incredible surroundings of the North York Moors to help people build confidence, improve their wellbeing and discover everything that spending time outdoors can offer.

And, with just a commitment of three working days per week, you’ll have greater freedom to shape work around your life, leaving more time for the people, passions and priorities that matter to you.

So, if you want to turn your passion for the outdoors into positive change for people and communities, read on and apply today!

The Role

As an Engagement Officer, you will support programmes that help people build confidence, improve wellbeing and connect with nature through walking, cycling and green social prescribing.

You will work alongside colleagues to deliver 10 week green social prescribing interventions for adults experiencing poor mental and/or physical health, helping participants develop skills, confidence and greater independence in accessing green and blue spaces.

Working with participants, communities and colleagues, you will help ensure activities are inclusive, accessible and shaped around local needs.

Additionally, you will:

- Build trusted relationships with programme participants
- Support walking and cycling programmes for children and young people
- Contribute to the development and trialling of a children’s Nature Prescription
- Maintain accurate records and assist with progress reports
- Ensure activities comply with health and safety, equalities, safeguarding and GDPR requirements

About You

To be considered as an Engagement Officer, you will need:

- Experience developing and delivering outdoor activities which connect people with nature and promote positive health and wellbeing outcomes
- Knowledge of the benefits of nature-based interventions for mental and physical health
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Excellent presentation skills
- The willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends
- At a minimum, five or more GCSEs (or equivalent) at 9-4 (A* to C), including English and Maths
- A qualification in, or equivalent experience, of community work or leading health and wellbeing activities for adults and/or children
- A full, valid driving licence

Applications must be completed by 23.59 on Monday 31st August 2026.

Interviews are to be held on Wednesday 9th September 2026 at Danby Lodge National Park Centre.

This post involves access to adults at risk and children; therefore, it is National Park policy to carry out pre-employment DBS checks.
