Purpose of job:
Our aim is to become a market leader in the provision of Electric Vehicle charging solutions to Local Authorities and Businesses as part of our strategy to lead the transition to zero carbon.
The goal is to undertake an ambitious electric vehicle charging installation program, deploying high volume and quality EV installations across the nation. Our aim is to make the world a better place, one charge point at a time.
The Junior HSEQ Advisor will support the Senior HSEQ Advisor in delivering Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (HSEQ) activities across the business. The role will involve carrying out site inspections and audits, supporting incident investigations, maintaining the Integrated Management System, assisting with ISO compliance and providing day-to-day HSEQ support to operational and support teams.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their HSEQ career within a growing engineering, construction and EV infrastructure business. The successful candidate will gain experience across Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Quality Management, CDM, contractor management, auditing and continual improvement whilst working closely with the Senior HSEQ Advisor and wider business teams.
Key Accountabilities:
The role is responsible for the following:
- Support initiatives that promote a positive Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality culture across the business.
- Support the Senior HSEQ Advisor in delivering departmental objectives and continual improvement initiatives.
- Maintain a good working knowledge of relevant UK Health & Safety legislation, environmental legislation and industry best practice.
- Support the implementation, maintenance and continual improvement of the Integrated Management System, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
- Carry out planned site inspections, workplace inspections, HSEQ audits and contractor audits across operational projects.
- Produce audit reports, monitor corrective actions and support departments in closing actions within agreed timescales.
- Assist with supplier and contractor compliance activities, including reviewing RAMS, competencies, insurances and supporting contractor onboarding.
- Monitor contractor compliance through site inspections, audits and engagement with operational teams to ensure company standards are maintained.
- Support operational teams in maintaining safe systems of work and promoting compliance with company procedures.
- Assist with the investigation of incidents, accidents and near misses, identifying root causes and supporting implementation of corrective and preventative actions.
- Support the delivery of HSEQ awareness training, toolbox talks, safety briefings and other communication initiatives.
- Support the development, review and communication of HSEQ policies, procedures and guidance documents.
- Promote hazard reporting, positive observations and continual improvement throughout the business.
- Support Quality Management activities, including document control, process compliance, non-conformance management, corrective actions and continual improvement.
- Assist with internal and external audits covering Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality Management Systems.
- Maintain HSEQ documentation, legal registers, management system records and audit documentation.
- Support the administration and continual improvement of HSEQ systems including Work Wallet, SharePoint and other business reporting systems.
- Monitor HSEQ performance data and assist with the preparation of monthly reports, KPIs and trend analysis.
- Support management of change activities through risk assessment, impact assessments and communication of changes.
- Support the management and monitoring of company and grey fleet driving for work records.
- Develop effective working relationships with employees, contractors, clients and other stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities for continual improvement and share good practice across the business.
- Travel regularly to operational sites throughout the UK to provide HSEQ support.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties appropriate to the role.
- Plus, any other duties as required by the leadership team.
Outcomes, Results & Key Performance Indicators:
- Support the achievement of HSEQ objectives and departmental targets.
- Completion of planned site inspections and audits within agreed timescales.
- Timely completion and close-out of audit findings and corrective actions.
- Effective support of the Integrated Management System and retention of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification.
- Positive contribution towards developing and maintaining a proactive HSEQ culture.
- Accurate and timely reporting of HSEQ performance.
- Effective administration of HSEQ documentation, records and reporting systems.
- Delivery of HSEQ support that contributes to safe, compliant and high-quality project delivery.
- Positive feedback from site teams, operational departments and contractors regarding HSEQ support.
Key Relationships:
- Internal – Senior HSEQ Advisor, Operations, HUBS, Project Managers, Commercial & Procurement, Bid, People and Senior Leadership Team.
- External – Clients, Principal Contractors, Contractors, Subcontractors, External Auditors, ISO Certification Body and Regulatory Bodies (where required).
Knowledge and Skills:
Essential
- Approximately 1-2 years' experience within a Health & Safety or HSEQ role.
- Experience within construction, civil engineering, utilities, engineering or manufacturing environments.
- Good understanding of UK Health & Safety legislation and a willingness to develop knowledge of Environmental and Quality Management Systems.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to build positive working relationships with employees, contractors and clients.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to produce clear reports and maintain accurate records.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and SharePoint.
- Willingness to travel to operational sites throughout the UK.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable:
- NEBOSH General Certificate or Construction Certificate
- Experience carrying out site inspections or HSEQ audits
- Understanding of CDM Regulations 2015
- Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001
- Experience reviewing RAMS and contractor documentation
