Full job description
About you:
We are looking for a talented and curious 3D designer who wants to create inspiring, purposeful experiences that have a real impact.
We are open-minded about your level of experience. You might be a recent graduate looking to start your career in a highly creative environment, or you may already have several years of commercial experience. What matters most to us is finding the right person: someone with strong creative instincts, a passion for problem-solving and the ability to contribute positively to our multi-disciplinary team.
You will have:
- A relevant design degree, or equivalent experience, in Product Design, Interior Architecture, Spatial Design, Experience Design or a related discipline.
- Experience with 3D modelling and visualisation software. Autodesk 3ds Max would be particularly useful, but is not essential for the right person.
- A good working knowledge of Adobe packages, particularly Photoshop and Illustrator.
- A strong understanding of the design process and the ability to develop ideas from initial thinking through to considered visual solutions.
- An interest in space planning, environmental and experiential design.
- The ability to communicate ideas clearly through sketching, visualisation, presentations or conversation.
- A curiosity for GenAI and emerging creative technologies, and an interest in using them thoughtfully throughout the design process.
- A collaborative, positive and resilient approach, with a willingness to continually learn, experiment and improve.
About the role:
Creativity is a fundamental part of how instinct laboratory solves problems. While human science sits at the heart of what we do, our designers transform that understanding into real-world ideas, environments and experiences that make our clients think about their challenges differently.
As a 3D Experience Designer, you will work as part of our multi-disciplinary creative team to dream, design and visualise inspiring yet purposeful solutions for clients across a wide variety of sectors.
You will work closely with designers, behavioural scientists, researchers and strategists on live client projects, helping to turn complex challenges and human insight into engaging physical and experiential solutions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing creative concepts and translating them into compelling 3D visualisations and experiential design solutions.
- Applying principles of space planning and environmental design to create considered real-world experiences.
- Using 3D modelling, Adobe Creative Suite and emerging GenAI tools to explore and communicate ideas.
- Working collaboratively with designers, behavioural scientists, researchers and strategists on live client projects.
- Communicating design concepts clearly to colleagues and clients.
- Managing your workload and priorities effectively, with increasing project responsibility as your experience develops.
- Occasionally travelling within the UK and abroad for client meetings, site visits and project work.
For candidates with more commercial experience, we would also expect you to be comfortable taking greater ownership of projects, managing your own priorities and working directly with clients.
This is a studio-based role working as part of our talented, multi-disciplinary team. Please only apply if you are able to work in-house at our Nottingham-based office.
About us:
instinct laboratory is a globally unique consultancy redefining how organisations understand and apply human behaviour to drive performance. We operate across international markets, partnering with globally recognised brands and elite organisations to explore how people truly think, decide and act and critically, how those behaviours shape financial outcomes, strategic direction and human performance at every level. Our work goes far beyond surface-level insight. We interrogate the underlying drivers of decision-making to bring clarity to complex, high-stake environments where sound judgement is critical.
Our approach integrates global research, behavioural science and strategic creativity to shape environments, experiences and propositions that measurably influence outcomes. From retail to healthcare and high-performance sport, we help organisations align human behaviour with commercial ambition. We are trusted because we challenge assumptions, surface the unknown unknowns and translate deep human understanding into rigorous, commercially grounded recommendations that withstand scrutiny at Board and C-Suite level.
What we offer:
- An outstanding, one-of-a-kind office space: our flagship office, instinct house, is a fantastic place to work.
- A culture based on sharing knowledge, learning and development. As we employ teams who wouldn’t normally work together (e.g. creative designers and data analysts / psychologists and development designers), we have a real focus on bringing our teams together.
- A friendly and supportive team. We are a small team working towards the same goals.
- Exposure to some of the world’s largest brands and organisations.
How to apply:
If this role is of interest to you, please apply by sending your CV, a link to your creative portfolio, a cover letter and three questions (about anything at all) to talent@instinctlaboratory.com, with reference #2509-3D Experience Designer, as the subject.
Want to make an impression? We’d love to receive an A4 hand-drawn sketch. No brief, no rules, just something that feels like you. Send it to Talent, instinct laboratory, 100–108 Wilford Lane, West Bridgford, Nottingham, NG2 7RL.
And finally, be yourself. We want your ideas and your voice, not AI-generated applications.
Pay: £29,000.00-£34,000.00 per year
Benefits:
- On-site parking
Application question(s):
- You must include a covering letter
- Please include a link to your portfolio - OTHERWISE YOUR APPLICATION WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED
- Remember to include your three questions.
Work authorisation:
- United Kingdom (required)
Work Location: In person
