Salary: Circa £36,233 salary, progression available depending on performance

Within the Chief Engineer's Office, our Commissioning team plays a critical role in bringing new water and water recycling assets to life. From testing systems for the first time to ensuring safe, efficient handover into operations, we help deliver high-performing infrastructure that serves millions of customers.

What Will You Be Doing as an Assistant Commissioning Engineer?

This is a hands-on, site-based role where you'll support the delivery of commissioning activities across a range of exciting water and water recycling projects.

You'll work closely with experienced Commissioning Engineers, gaining exposure to the full project lifecycle while building the skills needed to progress into a Commissioning Engineer role.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the commissioning of new treatment works and systems, ensuring assets are safe, reliable and ready for operation
  • Assisting in the development of commissioning plans, documentation and test procedures
  • Carrying out factory and site acceptance testing (FAT & SAT)
  • Supporting wet commissioning activities and optimisation of Water and Water Recycling treatment processes
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, seamless integration of new assets into live operational networks.
  • Helping to produce handover documentation, ensuring all assets meet required standards before transfer to operations
  • Working closely with construction, design and operational teams to integrate commissioning with project delivery
  • Supporting training of operational teams on new assets and systems

This role offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience across cutting-edge infrastructure projects while contributing to essential services for our customers.

Over a minimum period of 12 months, you will have the opportunity to build skills, knowledge and experience to become a Commissioning Engineer (CE).

What Does It Take to Be an Assistant Commissioning Engineer?

We're looking for someone with a strong technical foundation and a passion for learning and developing in an engineering environment:

  • Experience working with Water or Water Recycling process with a good knowledge of the processes themselves
  • Completed an LTO
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a practical, hands-on approach
  • Good IT skills and ability to work with technical documentation
  • Full UK driving licence
  • A proactive attitude with a strong willingness to learn and develop
