Experienced Freelance Equestrian Groom – Where People & Horses Thrive

Location: South Downs National Park
Hours: Regular, mutually agreed hours
Pay: From £13-£15.00 per hour (depending on experience and capability)

At Lavant Equestrian, our philosophy is simple: “Where People & Horses Thrive.”

We are looking for an experienced, capable, and proactive freelance groom to become a valued part of our friendly and professional team. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys responsibility, works efficiently, and takes pride in maintaining exceptionally high standards.

Set within the stunning South Downs National Park, our yard is home to 50+ well-mannered horses living out year-round, alongside a loyal and appreciative client base. We are seeking someone who can confidently take sole charge of the yard when required, think on their feet, and use their own initiative to keep everything running smoothly.

About the Role

This is a hands-on, fast-paced outdoor role suited to someone who thrives in a busy yard environment and enjoys purposeful physical work. You will play a key role in the daily care of our horses, supporting clients, and ensuring the yard remains tidy, organised, and welcoming at all times.

We are looking for someone who is naturally observant, dependable, and able to work independently without needing constant direction. Confidence, efficiency, and a calm, professional manner are essential.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience handling and caring for horses to a high standard
  • Confidence in taking sole charge of the yard when required
  • Someone who can work quickly, efficiently, and proactively
  • Ability to use initiative and solve problems independently
  • A strong work ethic and pride in maintaining excellent standards
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and staying calm under pressure
  • Physically fit, reliable, and happy working outdoors in all weathers
  • Friendly, professional, and a supportive team player

What You Can Expect

  • A beautiful countryside working environment in the South Downs National Park
  • Friendly, well-behaved horses who are a pleasure to work with
  • A supportive and welcoming team atmosphere
  • Indoor yard facilities with undercover working areas
  • Regular freelance hours
  • Opportunities to develop further within other areas of the business
  • A role where your hard work, care, and initiative are genuinely valued
