Full job description

Gemporia began in 2004 and we are a British live television and online jewellery retailer sourcing gemstones across the globe. Since the end of 2017, we are now very proud to be an employee-owned company and we are constantly seeking to grow our successful team.

About the Role

As a Jewellery Buyer, you will be responsible for curating and developing commercially successful product ranges that reflect our customers tastes and uphold our reputation for genuine, high quality gemstone jewellery.

You will work closely with the Jewellery Buying Manager & Head of Jewellery to contribute to the execution of our broader buying strategy, ensuring every range delivers on margin, quality and brand integrity. You will play a key role in identifying trends, briefing new product development, negotiating with suppliers and monitoring performance to make informed trading decisions.

Collaboration is key as you’ll work alongside sales, marketing and merchandising teams to ensure seamless, customer-focussed launches.

This is an exciting opportunity for a commercially-minded, customer centric, creative buyer with a passion for jewellery and a keen eye for product.

Key Responsibilities

  • Buying & Product Development: Be the expert in your area, understanding market dynamics, consumer preferences and strategic value for the business. Drive innovation in the company and the industry, ensuring that we are market leaders in gemstone jewellery and developing new products that meet customer needs, price expectations and satisfy margin targets.
  • Supplier Management: Source, develop and manage supplier relationships in the UK and FE. Maintain a proactive approach in negotiating cost prices on close-out deals and upholding quality standards and shipping schedules.
  • Drive Category Growth: With the support of the buying manager, review category performance to understand how each product group is trading and which levers can be pulled to continue to deliver profitable growth.
  • Inventory Management: Develop exit strategies for slow moving stock.
  • Cross Team Planning: Work closely with the sales and marketing team to plan and deliver product launches and events.

Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience in buying, with strong knowledge of critical path management. Jewellery experience is beneficial but not essential.
  • Strong commercial instinct with the ability to balance creativity and financial discipline.
  • Understanding of customer insights and market trends, with the ability to translate them into product success.
  • Exceptional negotiation skills, with the ability to build long-term, positive relationships with global suppliers.
  • Resilient, focused and detail-oriented, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Personal Qualities

  • 2+ years' experience within a commercial/creative/buying role, preferably within a customer focused retailer.
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills, with a track record of building internal and supplier relationships.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work both as a team and independently.
  • A passion and drive for learning.
  • Flexible to change.
