Full job description

Aalberts Surface Technologies is looking for a Contract Review Engineer for our Heat Treatment division based in North Hertfordshire, supporting high-specification aerospace, defence, and motorsport customers.

This is a key technical role responsible for ensuring that all customer requirements are accurately translated into compliant heat treatment processes, with a strong focus on quality, compliance, and customer satisfaction.

You will act as a vital link between customers, production, and quality teams—ensuring the successful delivery of technically complex components in line with industry standards such as AS9100 and NADCAP.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • Degree or equivalent experience in Metallurgy, Materials Science, or Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a technical engineering role (heat treatment preferred, surface treatments considered)
  • Good understanding of heat treatment processes (e.g. vacuum, carburising)
  • Experience working with aerospace specifications (AMS, NADCAP, AS9100)
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications accurately
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and business systems
  • High degree of flexibility to meet changing demands.

Prime Responsibilities

Technical & Contract Review

  • Perform contract review, order entry, and purchase order validation

Process Control & Validation

  • Manage changes to process documentation with full traceability and configuration control
  • Identify and coordinate process validation and substantiation trials
  • Support development and maintenance of technical documentation

Customer & Commercial Support

  • Act as a technical interface for customers
  • Support quoting activities by assessing technical requirements and risks
  • Respond to customer enquiries promptly and professionally
  • Build strong customer relationships to ensure ongoing satisfaction

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with AS9100, NADCAP, and internal quality systems
  • Support customer and regulatory audits
  • Maintain specification and customer approval libraries

Team & Operational Contribution

  • Collaborate with production, quality, and sales teams
  • Provide technical support and guidance internally
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives
