The Opportunity

As part of our continued growth, we're looking for a Junior Microbiologist to join our Quality Control team. This is an exciting opportunity to support both our established operations and the continued growth of our sterile manufacturing capabilities.

Working within our microbiology laboratory, you'll carry out a wide range of microbiological testing, provide technical expertise, support investigations and help ensure our laboratory continues to operate to the highest GMP and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out microbiological testing including environmental monitoring, microbial limits testing, preservative efficacy testing, growth promotion testing, endotoxin testing, water testing and validation activities.
  • Identify microorganisms using techniques such as MALDI-TOF, Gram staining and biochemical identification methods.
  • Investigate out of specification (OOS), out of trend (OOT) and atypical results, identifying root causes and implementing appropriate corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).
  • Analyse environmental monitoring trends and review microbiology data.
  • Write and review protocols, reports and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including laboratory commissioning, cleaning validation and environmental monitoring plans.
  • Train and support junior members of the microbiology team.
  • Ensure microbiology methods remain aligned with current European and British Pharmacopoeia requirements and industry best practice.
  • Use the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to manage samples and laboratory records.
  • Promote a safe laboratory environment, ensuring compliance with COSHH requirements and safe working practices.
  • Support MHRA inspections and regulatory audits as required.
  • Raise and investigate deviations and contribute to continuous improvement activities.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with GMP, company procedures and UK pharmaceutical regulations.
  • Support wider Quality Assurance activities across the business during quieter periods, providing assistance with areas such as manufacturing, QA release and other quality functions, offering valuable exposure across the wider pharmaceutical operation.

About You

We're looking for someone who is technically capable, organised and committed to maintaining the highest quality standards. You'll bring:

  • A degree (or equivalent qualification) in Microbiology or a related scientific discipline.
  • Experience working within a GMP-regulated pharmaceutical microbiology laboratory.
  • Knowledge of microbiological testing techniques and environmental monitoring.
  • Experience investigating microbiological deviations, OOS and OOT results.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
  • A proactive approach with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience writing SOPs and technical documentation is desirable.
  • The ability to travel to our site in North Downs Business Park, Sevenoaks.
  • A flexible approach with a willingness to support other quality functions and develop knowledge across the wider business.

  • 25 days of annual leave plus bank holidays.

  • Career development within a regulated, purpose-driven environment where your contribution truly matters.
