This is a unique opportunity to contribute directly to the collection of official data that informs national decisions on public services, the economy, and communities across the UK.

Why join ONS as a Field Interviewer?

  • Explaining the purpose of each study clearly and building rapport quickly
  • Managing your own schedule, travel, and administration
  • Representing ONS professionally within the community

What we’re looking for

  • Confident communicators who enjoy engaging with the public
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Professional, resilient, and well-organised approach to work
  • Flexibility to work varied hours

Essential requirements

  • Access to a car and a full UK driving licence
  • Willingness to travel between sampled addresses
  • Flexibility to work evenings and Saturdays
  • Multiple UK locations, spanning England, Wales and Scotland – including Cumbria, Yorkshire, Midlands, South West & South East England, North & South Wales, and Southern Scotland.

Working pattern

  • Average 22 hours per week
  • Interview visits take place between 09:00 and 20:00
  • Shifts may fall between 09:00–12:00, 12:00–18:00, 18:00–20:00, and Saturdays 09:00–20:00
  • Some travel and admin may take place outside interview hours

Pay and contract

  • £13.25 per hour
  • Holiday pay: £1.99 per hour
  • Total hourly rate: £15.24
  • Start date: Once pre-employment checks are completed
  • Contract: 12 months, with potential extension

Training and support

Full training and ongoing support will be provided to ensure you feel confident and successful in the role.

Why this work matters

Every interview completed contributes to the official statistics used to inform decisions on public services, economic planning, and social policy across the UK.
