Merchant Taylors’ Company are one of the “Great Twelve” livery companies in the City of London. In our award-winning historic venue, we entertain our members and guests.

We are now looking for a Front of House Supervisor to complete our Front of House team.

About the Role

This is a hands-on leadership role which requires active involvement, transparency and accountability.

Reporting into the Banqueting Operations Manager, you will play a pivotal part in delivering a high-end dining experience for all our functions. We deal with a varied range of functions, from small lunches or dinners for our members to weddings, large conferences and other commercial events. The role offers plenty of opportunity to learn about and get involved in all aspects of providing a 5-star service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivering breakfasts for any overnight guests
  • Together with manager and colleagues, overseeing all Company lunch and dinner, food and wine
  • Supervising & preparing the “mise en place” for events, including ensuring the rooms are set up properly for the relevant function
  • Organising and supervising the service stations
  • Assisting with food preparation and serving duties as and when required.
  • Ensuring an excellent service to all guests and resolving any complaints
  • Assisting with setting up and turning around rooms for events, including conducting random quality checks
  • Ensuring & monitoring that the Hall and service areas are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness
  • Communicating and liaising between client and kitchen about start times and special dietary requirements
  • Directing the service teams at each event
  • Together with manager and colleagues, training junior staff in food and beverage preparation, service, sanitation, and safety procedures
  • Acting as escalation point for queries in the absence of more senior staff
  • Assisting in the day-to-day supervision of all junior team members/casual workers and equipment
  • Training other team members to use the Company’s systems
  • Some silver cleaning will be required as part of the duties (training will be provided)

About you (skills, experience, qualifications)

  • At least 2 years’ experience as a front of house supervisor
  • Excellent customer service skills and attention to detail
  • Experience of working in an events venue
  • Presentable, friendly, approachable with good command of spoken English
  • Team worker
  • Highly organised and experienced in forward planning as well as problem solving
  • Personal licence holder (we will support relevant training and test fees)
  • Allergen Awareness training (to be satisfactorily completed within 3 months of the start date)
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene training (to be satisfactorily completed within 3 months of the start date)

Pay: £31,000.00-£33,000.00 per year
