As our Employee Relations Advisor, the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work.

Job description

You will provide a pragmatic, professional and pro-active range of employee relations coaching and advice-based services to managers, enabling them to improve levels of engagement and productivity from their people whilst feeling confident and empowered to manage employment matters on behalf of the organisation.

Your key duties:

  • Be an employee relations (ER) expert by nature - providing best practice ER case support and advice, constantly keeping up with employment law/wider CPD and policy change. Utilising on-going knowledge and ER experience to continuously identify and apply improvements for the service.
  • Build strong and respected working relationships with various stakeholders – key links with directorate areas creating inroads for pro-active led improvement work for both people and data driven enhancements as well as working collaboratively with the Trade Union (Prospect).
  • Support continuous service improvement – no day is ever the same, be an explorer and solution finder, challenge the status quo on where you can add value to improving our practices and employee services.

Be a passionate people professional – you champion and widely promote wellbeing, EDI and improvement initiatives and you live and breathe your work, focused on quality, and ensure ethical practice consistently happens, always looking to horizon scan and enhance the overall Met Office Employee Experience.

Person specification

Essential Criteria, skills and experience:

  • Expert by nature in Employee relations with practical advisory experience in Employee Relations gained from a complex organisation including managing a wide range of complex ER cases and Employment Tribunal preparation and support. (Lead criteria)
  • Strong working knowledge of UK employment law and ER best practice and examples of where you have evolved policy or practice to meet changing requirements.
  • You can demonstrate how you live and breathe ER with the proven ability to influence and proactively advise managers and business stakeholders.
  • In line with our better together value you have experience in coaching and developing others in people management practices inside the team and across the organisation.
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication and organisational skills.

The panel may perform a preliminary sift of the lead criteria as indicated above.

As our Employee Relations Advisor, your total reward package will be up to £49,448 annually, which includes:

  • £35,145 base pay
  • An outstanding Civil Service pension, with an average employer contribution of 28.97%
  • Annual Leave starting at 27.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) rising to 32.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) after 5 years and option to buy or sell up to 5 days per year of annual leave
