Full job description

About ELA

ELA delivers high-quality apprenticeships, standalone qualifications and short courses. We have expertise across a specific range of sectors and have established dedicated Business Units to deliver teaching and learning as specialist teams. Our Business Portfolio team delivers apprenticeships and qualifications in Project Management, Data, Cyber Security, AI & Automation and Leadership & Management.

We have a huge passion for delivering learning that makes a real difference — not training for training’s sake.

ELA is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk. The successful applicant will be required to undertake an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Role Purpose

This role sits at the heart of ELA’s Business Portfolio delivery. We are growing our Data and AI offer significantly, and this post has been created to meet the demand generated by the expansion of our Data Apprenticeships and the launch of our new AI programmes, including the AI Leadership Apprenticeship Units and the L4 AI & Automation Practitioner standard. We also deliver Cyber and Networking Apprenticeships within the Business Portfolio.

The role combines inspirational workshop delivery with structured portfolio coaching and learner support. You will carry a caseload of apprentices working in their places of employment, delivering sessions online and on-site, supporting evidence generation and driving timely progression to completion.

The ‘Senior’ element of the role involves supporting curriculum and business development activity when required, and contributing to the continuous improvement of quality and teaching standards across the Business Portfolio team.

You will report to the Operations Manager for this provision, who sits within the Operations structure reporting to the Head of Operations and COO.

Key Responsibilities

Training Delivery

  • Deliver outstanding teaching and learning across Data Apprenticeships (L3 Data Technician, L4 Data Analyst), AI Apprenticeships (L4 AI & Automation Practitioner), AI Leadership Apprenticeship Units, and Cyber and Networking Apprenticeships
  • Design and facilitate engaging workshop sessions — online and on employer sites — that bring technical content to life for working professionals
  • Use a variety of delivery methods including masterclasses, webinars, group workshops, scenario-based activities and guided discussion
  • Work with Functional Skills Specialists to support learners with English, maths and digital components where applicable
  • Support learner enrolment and induction onto apprenticeship programmes

Portfolio Coaching & Learner Support

  • Carry a caseload of apprentices and maintain regular contact to ensure consistent progress
  • Conduct structured 1-2-1 review meetings with apprentices and their line managers, providing specific portfolio advice and guidance
  • Review portfolio work and provide timely, constructive feedback in line with ELA’s PQA practice
  • Ensure apprentices’ evidence is regularly uploaded, mapped to KSBs and progressing to gateway in a timely manner
  • Support EPA preparation through 1-2-1s, mock assessments and line manager briefings; attend EPAs as the trainer representative
  • Identify and respond to learning barriers, escalating learner support needs where appropriate

Quality, Compliance & Administration

  • Maintain all regulatory and financial records to the standard required for an Ofsted-regulated provider
  • Administer e-portfolio and MIS systems, identifying and addressing any compliance risks
  • Attend and contribute to Teaching, Learning and Assessment standardisation meetings
  • Engage employers meaningfully in the learning programme and support client reporting requirements
  • Collect, annotate and share exemplar learner work to support quality improvement

Professional Development & Business Contribution

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of developments in data analytics, AI, cyber security and the wider apprenticeship landscape
  • Contribute to curriculum development and business development activity when required
  • Take part in CPD activity and work towards any qualifications identified through the performance review process
  • Promote ELA and its qualification offer to employers and learners as a natural part of your role

Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications

Essential

  • Minimum 3 years’ practical experience in a data, analytics, AI or cyber/digital-related role or industry
  • Strong working knowledge of data concepts, tools and techniques relevant to L3/L4 apprenticeship standards (e.g. SQL, data visualisation, Python basics, statistical analysis)
  • Familiarity with AI concepts at a business and leadership level — sufficient to confidently deliver the AI Leadership Apprenticeship Units and/or the L4 AI & Automation Practitioner standard
  • Experience of training, coaching, mentoring or teaching adults in a professional context
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences
  • Level 2 minimum in English, maths and ICT (or equivalent)
  • Comfortable working with industry-standard MIS and e-portfolio systems, and standard Microsoft Office applications
  • Eligible to work in the UK; willing to undertake an Enhanced DBS check

Desirable

  • Recognised teaching or assessing qualification (e.g. TAQA, AET, CET, PGCE or equivalent)
  • Experience delivering funded apprenticeships or other regulated qualifications
  • Knowledge of ESFA apprenticeship funding rules and EPA processes
  • Experience working with industry-standard MIS and e-portfolio platforms used in the apprenticeship sector
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g. Microsoft, Google, BCS data qualifications; AI/ML certifications; CompTIA or equivalent cyber/networking certifications)
  • Experience delivering IT or digital apprenticeships or courses beyond the core Data and AI specialisms (e.g. Cyber Security, Networking, Digital Marketing) — broadens delivery flexibility as the Business Portfolio grows

Rewards & Benefits

  • 25 days annual leave + 8 bank holidays, increasing with length of service up to 5 years
  • Company shut down between Christmas and New Year
  • Access to the Health Assured Employee Assistance Programme
  • Mileage expenses paid for business travel
  • Laptop and mobile phone provided
  • Employee recognition scheme including monthly awards
  • Annual staff conference
  • Opportunity to participate in charity of the year fundraising activities
  • Ongoing CPD and the opportunity to gain recognised qualifications
  • Supportive team environment with excellent management and peer support

Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

ELA is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and warmly welcomes applications from all sections of the community. We are dedicated to creating an inclusive environment where all staff and learners feel valued and supported to succeed.
