About the role...
This role sits within the Cambridge Growth Company (CGC), a subsidiary of Homes England. The CGC is a small but growing cross-disciplinary team of professionals with a focus on supporting the Government’s ambition for Cambridge. Government has set out ambitious plans to grow the greater Cambridge economy and associated housing, which is critically important to UK Plc. Ensuring this growth happens within an urban exemplar of placemaking will be essential to existing and future residents.
Working collaboratively with public and private sector partners, this role will support the Senior Manager and Head of Project Delivery to progress opportunities for site and infrastructure acceleration including funding (equity, grant and loan), acquisitions and partnering (including CPO) and acting as an interface with existing Homes England programmes and teams. the role will also support the team to create, unlock, accelerate and develop a pipeline of future activity in line with growth plans and the developing evidence base for Cambridge, driving forward the Government’s ambitious vision for Cambridge. This is an exciting role offering the opportunity to participate in one of the region’s most transformational projects and work in partnership to meet housing need.
This is a rare chance to work for an organisation which is uniquely positioned to shape the future of place-based housing delivery and regeneration in Cambridge. Working with influential stakeholders, you will support our experienced team in driving delivery of a range of complex workstreams.
About you...
We are looking for someone to join our Team who understands and is passionate about the delivery of quality homes, placemaking and regeneration and wants to work in an inclusive, supportive and driven team.
You will be motivated by the transformative impact of placemaking and understand the ability of a development led response to tackle social deprivation and economic underperformance.
The successful candidate will ideally have post-qualification skills and experience in technical and commercial acumen, knowledge of mixed-use development, skills and experience of working on large and complex sites to support the Cambridge ambition and accelerate delivery of major projects. Familiarity the business case process and experience in working with departments on major strategic projects will also be valued.
The role also requires an understanding of sustainable place-making, planning and relevant Government policies and priorities and will have experience of translating policy into operational delivery.
The successful candidate will be required to work as a team player to meet objectives aligned with the strategic ambitions for the wider team.
Given the anticipated scale of growth for the team, we are not only looking for people with the specialist skills required for this role, but we’re also looking for people with a positive, can-do approach who are able to work in a fast-paced, changing environment who are willing and able to support work right across the wider team.
As a subsidiary of Homes England, all roles within the CGC will be aligned to Homes England’s expected behaviours and values.
Who are we?
Cambridge Growth Company
In April 2024 Homes England was commissioned to work with MHCLG officials to establish an incorporated growth company to act as an interim delivery body for the Secretary of State’s ambitions for Cambridge – this is the Cambridge Growth Company (CGC), a subsidiary of Homes England. The growth company was incorporated on 15th May 2024 is a stepping stone to a potential long-term delivery vehicle.
The CGC works with local government to establish the best long-term business case to fund infrastructural improvements — water supplies, the transport network, education, health, and the natural environment, ensuring that as much as possible is delivered from the increase in the land value of the sites to be developed.
Homes England: The Housing and Regeneration Agency
We believe that affordable, quality homes in well-designed places are key to improving people’s lives. As the government’s housing and regeneration agency, we create thriving new places and transform urban areas, combining the full breadth of our powers, expertise, land, capital and influence to bring investment to communities and get more homes built.
How? We form long-term partnerships that bridge the gap between the public and private sector to meet local needs and aspirations. We use our influence to champion the creation of sustainable homes, communities and places that are brilliantly designed for the people that live there now, and in the future. And we use our funding and support to build a more resilient, diverse and innovative housing sector, helping new entrants in the market, encouraging modern methods of construction and design, and promoting the utmost attention to building safety.
Together with our partners, we’re accelerating the pace of house building, remediation and regeneration across the country, as we seek to deliver ever more affordable homes in places people are proud to call home for generations to come.
